In this modern age, is there proof that God really exists, or is He simply a fairy tale dreamed up by humanity to make us feel better about the brutality of human existence?

Well, if God does'nt exist, then we can do whatever the heck we want. Let's get all that we can, stomping on everyone that gets in the way, so that we can live as comfortable as possible. We're all going to the same place, which is non-existence, right? Is this the way you would like to see how life should be? Why not just kill off all the disadvantaged and handicapped people and end such needless suffering to make it easier for them. In fact, why not just destroy the planet and end the misery of many on this Earth. Cold, but it has a raw logic don't you think?
Hard to imagine that we exist, live, and become non-existent. I personally there is more reason for our existence than a freak accident.
Try this hypothetical situation. Imagine a gigantic bowl. You throw in wood, glass, concrete, metals, etc. In other words, everything you would need to make a beautiful house. You then shake and spin this bowl. You hit it with heat, lightning, cold, water. You do this for millions of years. Do you ever think you'll have a fully built house with these actions? Impossible!! Now we being much more complicated than a house, are we freak accidents? All that is left is "Intelligent Design." Something has to put that house together, as well as us.
Why we're here, hard to say. Can't say what religion is correct, but there has to be some kind of divine reason for our existence.

Study Science well and compare what you learnt to a book that has been memorised word by word by millions since it was written about 1400 years ago and find your proof for yourself.

Even the rising and setting of the Sun in the perfect way to support life on Earth is proof of His existence, for those who can see it.

Excellent answer Torobyte.
Altough not relevant to your hypothesis, now you're going to have people talking about evolution. Considerring even the tinyest thing going wrong in our body leads to serious health problems and is fatal, then no being would've made it to this day if anything we have now was missing millions of years ago. We wouldn't have even had the chance to evolve. We and all other living beings are extremely complex and such a complexity is not the product of evolution.

Bingo. Not even a very pretty fairy tale. I assume you mean the God of Abraham. No proof there, but conversely is easily debunked. "He made the sun stand still." Right. The sun already stands still, it is the Earth that turns. The Bible writers didn't even know that much when they professed to know about the creator of the universe. But the universe is god. It is wondrous and magic. Don't know what happened here on Earth. I guess god does plays dice.

There is no proof that god exist. However, some may say that this is not the same as god doesn't exist.

Yes, He exists. Pretty crude example. A man and a woman wed. Marriage starts off great, food, conversation, sex, all tops. After a while, both get busy. No time for the other. Develop outside interests. Twenty years down the road, little to no conversation, eating at two separate times and places, intimacy is gone. Question: Were they ever really married?

Man can try as he might to put God out of his mind, but ignoring people or things don't make them non-existent.

Great question though!

It's all in how you view it. Do you question Love? You know what it is, but do you need proof it exists? The 10 commandments... Rules of how we should live our lives according to God's word. If the whole wide world all of a sudden woke up one day, and began to live lives of peace, love and harmony....wouldn't you say to yourself: "Wow....there really IS a God"!!!!

Which one are you referring to? There are HUNDREDS of them! Someone should lump them all together, keep all the good bits, chuck out anything dodgy, and call that particular God, the ONE and ONLY God., make him invisible, all powerful and Bingo !! Not a bad idea, but would it fool anyone?

If a god with human characteristics were real, like Jehovah, he would have his own primetime talk show. The true god is found in scientific discoveries and laws of nature and physics; it is a non-interfering and impersonal "deity" of which we are all a part, "whose" only means of "communication" with us is the real world of science.

There is no real proof. However, I think its more about how you feel about God. Is it easier to live your life if you think that there is somebody watching over you? If so, then just go for it. Don't let science run your life. It's been wrong hundreds of times before.
