I have heard numerous rumors that tricare will pay for 1 plastic surgery operation, but then i read in their 'handbook' that they dont. I have a medical issue that was caused by a military dr, and needs fixed, but its not 'demed' as a medical necessity. I need it fixed and I want tri care to pay for their f*ck up.

its not far to me that i have to look like this from their stupid (majority of them are) drs. that don't care, they just get paid.

Tricare will pay for any elective surgery as long as your Dr. deems it as being necessary.
I know women who have also had plastic surgery under tricare.
I had a tubal reversal with them, and in the handbook and website, it tells you that it wont pay for it.
If they did something to screw up, then you need to address it with your MD and tell him/her, you want a referal to have it fixed. If you "ask", youre likely to hear no, if you tell them, I want a referal, you typically get it.
Also, and this is last ditch resort, I do know women who have actually had a congressional inquiry as to why they were not being taken care of under Government Medicine.
I would just say, give me the referal, or I will make a short trip to the capital of the state.
If any service member, or their dependants make a complaint, a part of the congressmans staff has to check into it, and decide why its not being addressed.

Good Luck

Why do you listen to rumors instead of going to the main source? Call up Tricare and present your case and see what they say. The handbook is just a general guide and does not cover individual cases. In my lifetime expirienced with Champus now Tricare, the majority of the doctors/surgeons are most caring.

not that easy.. and if your spouse is coming right and telling you you are unattractive to them you have bigger issues. there are a LOT of hoops to jump through toinclude a Psych evaluation and the waiting list is very long as only about 6 places actually DO any plastic surgery. Priority goes to AD who have medically necessary reasons for it, then dependents with medical necessity then maybe if you are lucky a space A slot will open up. all expenses incurred getting there plus hotel and meals are out of picket. also implants are out of pocket.. the only thing covered is the surgeoan and the anesthesiologist and their time, plus the OR.

I agree, being active duty I am entitled to have a breast reduction if I can prove it is causing me major back and shoulder problems.

Just go and complain to one of the councilors, the mental health ones, and to your PCM but don't mention that you want Tricare to pay for their screw up. Simply say things like "I don't have that great self confidence." I'm having severe doubts about my appearance, I don't have a healthy self image of myself.

Stuff like that and keep on badgering them about it and eventually you will get it.

i love this rumor and its completely false. here's what i copied from the tricare handbook online.....

Cosmetic, Plastic, or Reconstructive Surgery - Only covered when used to restore function, correct a serious birth defect, restore body form after a serious injury, improve appearance of a severe disfigurement after cancer surgery, or breast reconstruction after cancer surgery.

if its something they messed up, they should be obligated to fix. if you can't get any help from the tricare office or doctors, contact your local congressman if its really important to you.

it all depends if it is for something that is life threatning etc then yes, and i certainly agree that if it was a military doctor that did it to you then more than likely you will need proof and documentation and possibly legal representation in order to get tricare to pay for anything.

You should talk to a Tri Care representative. Ask them how to go about CORRECTING a medical error made by a physician. I don't think your situation is the same as someone crying about a big nose God gave him. This situation was created by the doctors themselves.

If the book says no, then it is no. You can always sue them if they caused the problem.
