Gravity pulls us all in toward the center of the earth, so there isn't really an up or down regarding how earth is positioned. Gravity pulls everything in toward the center of the earth, so you can't fall off of it.

Globes are only made with North at the top because of convention, there is no real upside or downside. Where ever you are on the surface of the globe, gravity acts in a straight line down to the centre of the globe.

Well, actually, unless you live in the South Pole you would be 'upside down' because the direction is south. So technically you would be 'sideways'.
But then if you think about, what would make you 'stick' to the earth, and not just fall off completely??? Gravity makes you 'stick'.

We are, down here in Australia, compared to you over in England. But the effect of gravity, pulling evenly from a central point, and the effect of the earth's spinning round (once a day) and the effect of the land seeming to be flat (when we know it really isn't) all affect us.
The real answer is the gravity of the planet compared to the relatively minute size of us on the planet cancels out any spatial effects on our bodies.
It's all about size.

The simple answer is Gravity. you might be standing upside down, but gravity keeps you straight and gives you a 'standing' feeling.

"UP" is a relative concept. It is generally regarded as being above our heads when we are standing or sitting upright, in a vertical line moving away from us. "Up" has no limits. As we are all stuck all over the earth like pins in a round pin-cushion then "up" is actually spherical and surrounds the whole earth.
"DOWN" is considered to be the opposite - below our feet when we are standing upright. It therefore is everything below ground. This alters for us as soon as we remove ourselves from the surface of the earth though - as I said it's a relative concept.
"Up" could also be considered to be the opposite direction to the pull of gravity.
What it all boils down to is that up and down are concepts that you perceive relative to yourself.
All direction is only relative to something else. If we had no reference point we could not tell up from down. This is why sensory deprivation tanks can be very upsetting for some people - they effectively remove all points of reference.
Best to stick to - its above your head, its up, its below your feet, its down. Now stop turning cartwheels young man.
