My kids and I are making some for a charity bake sale this evening. I love the jelly roll idea! I hope they sell like hot cakes. One time my mom and I made these with stale marshmallows and my dad broke his tooth! When you're really lazy, half the recipe and eat them warm off a spoon right out of the pot. I can almost rationalize that it's not much different from a large, late night bowl of cereal. Also, I love that the clean up is such a breeze...all that sticky sugar just melts away with hot water! P.S. For those who may be inclined...don't bother trying a "spread" in place of butter or margarine. The consistancy ends up all wrong.

The reason all spreads (margarine, butter, creme cheese) have the ability to spread is because they have a little liquid added to them. It isn't much, but when using spreads in a recipe you need to take this factor into account, so use a slightly little less spread than the receipe calls for, about a teaspoon per pound. Whereas it concerns Rice Krispie Treats, they will turn out okay if you use a spread but their texture will be a little different than if you used stick margarine. Most people probably won't notice it, though, just those who eat a ton of Rice Krispie Treats.
By the way, the reason chewy cookies are soft is because they have a little corn syrup added to the receipe, so if you ever want to make chewy cookies this is what you need to do. I know that doesn't have anything to do with Rice Krispie Treats but I thought maybe someone might want a baking hint.

Ingredients 1 bar of milk chocolate 2 mugs of rice krispies. Method 1: Melt the chocolate in either the microwave or over some boiling water on the oven ( if in the microwave keep a close eye on it as it melts very quickly and will then burn ) 2:Add the rice krispies and mix in well until all is covered in chocolate. ( You may not need all the rice krispies or you may need more depending on the individual.) 3:Transfer to cake paper cases with a tsp, put in the fridge until hard. 4:Enjoy.

Yep! In fact, I just made a batch last week using Country Crock Light. They turned out perfectly fine, and I'm heading to the kitchen to make another batch tonight. If there was a difference in taste or consistency, I couldn't tell- and there were no complaints from my husband or kids, either! :)

Why some things call for you to use butter is because pure unsalted butter can be melted down "cleanly" - I have used various spreads in cooking with no unsatisfactory results. Unless you have to start a recipe by melting butter in a pan I do not think it makes any difference

I prefer the ready made marshmellow mix. It works out awsome. Than for a more sinful treat add some chocolate chips or m&ms. Let me know how it comes out.
