I've warned about drinking it without having physical activity. Otherwise it goes to your kidneys and causes stones. I've tried to communicate with www.gatorade.com, but it is only possible if you leave in the US. Is this true???

The main reason that you should avoid sports drinks if you're not exercising (or at least in the hot sun) is that they contain a killer amount of simple carbs. Those carbs get converted quickly to food energy, which is great ifyour'e running a marathon, but otherwise get converted to FAT on you butt (and elsewhere).

Sports drinks are being studied as we speak for urinary tract issues.

If you have kidney stones already, then doctors warn you not to drink them because they do contain lots of sodium. Sodium is needed if you're running a marathon in the hot weather, but not so good if you're not even using what you normally get in your food.

As someone else stated, the problem with sports drinks is the amount of sugar/simple carbs in them. If you are not using the carbs (through exercise or otherwise), they will turn to fat. I have been told by many people though that Gatorade has the least amount of sugar and it has been recommended by both my OB and my children's pediatrician to prevent dehydration when sick. Also, according to the Gatorade website, Gatorade does have less sugar than soda and fruit juice so it is probably a better choice than either of those.

I think it is made for people at risk of becoming dehydrated through exercising or as in my case from a side effect from medication.
