in learning the Hindi language. Can anyone offer advice or web site so that I may teach myself?

i don't wish to learn Indian dance (just yet)...only the Hindi language

Here is my suggestion.
All good dictionary have lots of script with their name and sound. This will be a good place to start. Dave Nagri is the official script.
Then do a Google search, see what is there and what you are comfortable with.
There may be tapes and old records, "Teach yourself" series(try library). Buy them if you like them
If you are near any big University, then see if they have the program. Some adult education classes run this type of program for free or at nominal charge.
Call around. India association in the area may have some volunteers.
PS.
If library does not have it then they may tell you where to get it they have special supplier catalogues.

I don't think u can learn any hindi dance through internet..I'd suggest a teacher

I can recommend the my langauge exchange websute, you can teach someone your mother tongue n exchange for them teaching you theirs. It was listed as one of the top 101 websites of 2003 by PCWorld magazine.
Once you find someone you may be able to talk to them free of charge using an internet VOIP system such as Skype.
