Well, I would say that you are off to a great start in going to the gym! Physical fitness/weight loss does take time, so make sure you do not try to hurry things.

I would strongly suggest that instead of 'dieting' that you begin to incorporate more healthy foods into your diet. I suggest this method to many people that I train and most people never seem to miss the unhealthy foods that they replace with healthier, more nutritious foods.

For example, instead of snacking on potato chips, grab some almonds, or low fat string cheese, or carrot sticks. Instead of snacking on candy, grab some light popcorn, sugar free popsicles, or low-fat yogurt.

Continue going to the gym and slowly incorporating healthier foods into your diet and I guarantee that you will see a dramatic improvement in your weight loss.

Cut your caloric intake down to 1500 or 1200 calories a day and do regular cardio exercise for about an hour a day. There are 3500 calories in a pound by consuming less calories than you burn in a day you will lose weight. Starvation diets are not the way to go because they slow down your metabolism and eventually stop working. Also you are more likely to put back on the pounds once you resume a normal eating pattern, and a woman's caloric intake should not be any less than 1200 calories a day due to medical reasons.

P.S. You are beautiful no matter what size you are, don't derive your worth from others opinion of you.

Don't think so much "diet" as lifestyle change. Exchange the unhealthy things you eat for healthier choices. Fruit instead of candy (go for dried fruits or granola bars for concentrated sweetness), cut out all soda and processed, manufactured sweets and snacks like chips and other junk foods.
Try to eat fresh food you make yourself as much as possible. Take your own lunch to work or school, so you know what's in it. Eat more fruit and veg and less dairy and meat.
Cut out caffiene (soda counts too!) because it gives you the munchies. Sip mineral water instead of coffee or tea; try the flavoured ones.
I've had the gym experience too; is your trainer aware that your goal is to lose weight, not bulk up? Go for aerobic workouts more than weight machines; walking and cycling instead of passive stuff. Walking and swimming are better for weight loss than an expensive gym.
And don't expect to lose 10 lbs in a month; aside from the fact that muscle weighs more than fat, a healthy weight loss is slow and steady. The faster you take it off the faster you may pile it back on. Aim to lose about 1/2 a pound to 1 pound a week.

Train yourself to dislike drinking soda, eating candy bars or fast food, priducts high in animal fats or processed sugars. Eat instead much more fruit and vegetables, whole grain and whole meal breads and flour.
If the food you eat that is low in nutritional value then you gain weight from the refined sugars and saturated fats but your body thinks it is straving so it puts these down as fat reserves.
What is important in life is not quick fixes, but to get into good habits for a whole lifetime. Now is the time to start.

Do what I did. I tended to "decorate" my weight with large clothes. Mistake, made me look larger than I was and I did not have the extra incentive of trying to look good in my clothes. We have a tendency to try and cover it up. I look at pictures now and am amazed at the difference the clothing made in my attitude, my looks and most of all my eating habits. Good luck, and hang in there. It can be done. Most of all remember this. Don't loose the weight for anyone but yourself if you are not at a health risk weight, then do it for the people that want to keep you around a lot longer.

pick up a 5 or 10 pound weight at the gym and visualize that weight coming off holding the weight in your hands helps bring home just how heavy even 5 pounds of extra fat can be

Try eating a low calorie diet and if you plan on eating high in fat foods cut down on the portions and make healthy substitutions such eating from the food groups and avoid the fats oils and sweets use them sparingly. fruits, vegetables, fish oatmeal and special K cereal are healthy choices instead of drinking whole milk cut down to low fat milk avoid sodas but you can drink alot of juices and rarely a diet soda

exercising walk alot to alot of leg lifts, sit- ups, jogging, and drinking plenty of water and you can continue going to the gym the first 10lbs come of quickly and after wards you may lose a pound a week (very slow process)

The problem with dieting is just that. We shouldn't diet, but rather manage our weight. That means using a different thinking. I recommend going to:

At least watch the presentation (step 2), but some of the testimonies in step 1 are worthwhile. It worked for me.

Why why why, do you pretty and some what over weight girls
spend time doing those awful boring repetitious exercises that work if you purchase the program's drugs or buy their food..When there is a FREE, FUN, ENJOYABLE,exercise program that is GUARANTEED TO WORK EVERY TIME you use it. you can do at home, outside with mother nature, or in your car, garage or basement. No heavy or nonworking junk to buy.
Just climb on top of your boy friend. If he needs to lose a few pounds, change positions, it will work for him too. If you don't have a boy friend, borrow one, or call me.

Diets do not work. 99% of people gain the weight back. Here is how it works. No one teaches the animal what to eat and what not to eat. He knows instinctively what to eat. Humans also have the same instinct. The way it works is just eat whatever tastes good and that will be healthy for you and non-fattening. That is why a baby tastes everything. So again whatever tastes good, is good for you. This is why you will spit out spoiled milk.

But wait!!! Man has the technology to create rat poison. It tastes like healthy food (good taste) but kills the rat. So man has done that to you. Note- any food unaltered by man (uncooked) that tastes good, is good for you. So if you are stranded in the woods, that is how you know what to eat (cooking changes that). So man has created fake fruit. It tastes like fruit that exists in nature but it is terrrible for health, addictive and fattening called sweets.

So it is natural to like real sweets called fruit, like a baby does, but they have fooled you just like the rat. But they do not want to kill you. They want you to become obese so you will buy lots of their foods. This is called GOOD BUSINESS. Remember the above (not on site) and see site below to re-learn how to eat so you can be thin and fit for life.
