Same problem here, got my puppy just over a month ago, wouldn't eat, tried different food, he also like to eat from the floor or my hand.

I had to force myself to stop feeding him by hand the vet told me there was nothing wrong "just plain spoiled". He is a shih tzu.

Now he will eat from the bowl, while I sit with him. Still likes a few pieces on the floor.

I tried a plate, a different type of small dish he just wanted to be hand feed and for such a small dog he was very much "large and in charge", lol. Not anymore, but it is sure hard not to fall for his tricks.

DON'T be worried. This made me laugh when I saw this because my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel did the EXACT same thing. He is a little over a year right now, and finally eating out of his bowl. I found out he likes white or a pale yellow ceramic bowls. They some how don't scare him. The metal ones or any dark color scare him. Try this and let me know if it works because I struggled with this for over a year trying to get him to eat. My email is chastity_83@msn.com Good luck:) It will turn out fine!

hand feeding him will only delay the process of getting him to eat from his bowl. if u have an attached eating and drinking bowl set , try to get seperate ones. both my cat and dogg won't eat from thier bowls, my cat scoops out bout 3 peices at a time with his paw then eats off the floor. and my dog grabs a mouth ful and runs away from his bowl dumps his mouth and eats where ever he dumps it at. but both of them will eat foods that i put on a plate, but that could be because its some chicken or a table scrap and their just people food piggy's.

Let your dog eat from the floor. Every cat and dog does their own weird things. Put down a place mat and let him eat from the floor. Even wet food, you'll just have to wash the placemat. If your dog wont eat at all - he needs to see the vet ASAP.

once you start hand feeding you going to have a problem stopping it. you dogs gonna to expect it all the time. try using a flat saucer of plate it sometimes works. it could be the fact that he doesnt like to put his mouth into a deep bowl or the noise it makes when hes eatin biscuits from it. drinking water from the same bowl is different he doesnt need to put his mouth right into the bowl to drink(unless theres not much water in) and it doesnt make the same noise as biscuits when eating.

I've never heard of a dog who wil starve himself - your dog will eat if you stop hand feeding him!

But what you can do to get him started is mix something he really likes into his dog food - a bit of chicken, maybe some rice, a few vegetables that he likes like broccoli, beans, carrots, squash (my dog's all-time favourite food!), lo-fat cottage cheese, or no fat, no sugar yogurt (which is also good for digestion). I bet if you add goodies to his food, he'll eat from his bowl!

Try using a shallow, but larger bowl. This will be more like "the ground/floor" that your dog prefers to eat from. Maybe even a clear glass pie dish would do the trick.

The dog is winning. Don't hand feed him. Just leave the food in the bowl...he will eat it. It just might take a few days. If the food is available, he will not get sick or die from not eating for a few days, just hang in there and he will get the hang of it.

As you probably know- Dogs have a ability to smell things that humans cant smell. There is a possibility that the bowl has absorbed something that cant be washed away. And the dog don't like the smell.

Put his favorite treat in his bowl underneath some food mybe that will work, or try putting the food in your hand and putting your hand really close down to the bowl and every day put it down closer and closer and the put it in the bowl with your hands just barely underneath it it worked fo me
