Cover the burnt bit with cold water and plenty of salt (enough to cover the bottom of the pot) and put it on a very low heat and let it simmer with the lid on. Don't do what I did and let it boil dry again though.

The black bits should flake away. You can use steel wool or a green scourer to clean the last bits away when you have got rid of the majority of the burnt bits.

Alternatively you can boil it with water and baking powder - be generous with the baking powder.

I've done this and have dealt with the situation by adding some water and detergent to the horrid black mess and heating it up for a few minutes, afterwards leaving it to cool down and soak. It does come off in the end!

I was always told that if you get black marks in an aluminium pan, cook some rhubarb in it and the acid removes the marks. never tried it though.

try leaving it with cold water in it over night and you'll have to use a bit of elbow grease to remove it in the morning. worked for me. good luck:-)

sos pad
scrapper from Pampered Chef

but your best thing is to toss the pan if its not overly expensive they don't cook right after you burn something that badly.
