I've heard that the use of chapstick and lip balm effectively causes your lips to become tolerant, requiring an increase in application to attain the level of initial relief. I have no scientific evidence to back my claim, but i have refrained from habitual use of these products accordingly

is it just your lips ? or the area around the mouth ? some people lick their lips and can get so chapped that is looked like they have a red ring around their mouth. chapstick is good as a staple - tiger balm is awesome if you can deal with the burning - or if you don't mind a little greasy feeling .... vasaline (either lip therapy or the standard tub o jelly) ....

chapstick (perhaps medicated), blistex and at nights vaseline. also you need to drink lots of water and natural foods so as to keep your skin and lips hydrated especially in winter time.
