You can learn a lot from the Bible, but I think you have to read it with a certain attitude. The point is that the Bible is God's Word. If you don't believe, you will not hear Him. You won't have the insight of the Holy Spirit. Which is not to say that it's completely impossible. There have been many people who have come to Christ merely by reading the Bible, sometimes a stolen Bible from a hotel room. If it couldn't, the Gideons wouldn't be wasting their time. It's just that you have to either be at a low point where you are really needing God, or you have to be open to the possibility.

Which 5% do you feel is of any redeeming good? Have you ever read the whole Bible? It's either all true, or all a lie, and I happen to know from how Jesus changed my life when I became a Christian that it's all true. You have to step out in faith first, then God will do the rest.
I tried to respect your question by not giving Biblical quotes, but honestly, there has to be a sincere desire in your heart to really KNOW the truth.
I would also like to add that even those who did not necessarily believe, say, 100 yrs ago, were still, generally, alot more moral than the people of our day. Modernism and popular opinion doesn't negate truth.

First of all, the Bible in it's entirety really and truly is "timeless". Yes, there are stories of antiquity, but the message is not. There should be no Christian who cannot speak of their faith without having to resort to quoting Scripture, not that that is bad in itself.
However, the core of being a Christian is that we have become adopted sons and daughters of God, thus brothers and sisters with Jesus himself - and each other. That means that God is personally involved in my life. Whether through the Sacraments, and I've had some definite personal experiences where the love of God was overwhelmingly present after receiving the Eucharist before. Or feeling the Love and Forgiveness from the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Perhaps in a more practical daily experience, I feel the love with my family and others that I know.
I had an experience several years ago with an atheist that I worked with. He once made a comment out loud to the person sitting behind me that he thought that "people who ate fish were stupid". This was during the season of Lent where we fast from meat. That got my ire up. After sharing it with some brothers, they recommended that I simply pray for their benefit. In short, within a 6 months, our relationship had drastically changed so much that this person was open to picking me up at the car dealers after work. He no longer made any such antagonistic comments, he even defended my beliefs, even though he was still an atheist. That is the power of God's love!

Sure, I am happy to help you.
First let me say that the Bible (please capitalize in the future) is not outdated. In fact, there are things happening right now in the World that were outlined in the Bible. These things lead up to a very important day for ALL of humanity ... and yes, there are few of them yet to happen (and they were also outlined in the Bible).
You see, there will be a day when the Lord calls all of his people to Heaven .. and when that day comes (as outlined in the Bible) all who know him and have accepted him as their savior will leave this Earth and go to a BEAUTIFUL place for eternity.
Now, it could be argued that there is no such thing, yadda, yadda, yadda ... but here's my point. We will both die at some point. If I die believing an I am wrong am I any worse off? On the other hand if you die not believing and you are wrong, are you any worse off.
Please seek a good Bible based Church and follow the Lord to a MUCH HAPPIER life .. You won't be sorry.
I suggest you start with this .. there is a good Preacher on tv .. his name is Joel Osteen and he broadcasts from Lakewood Church in Houston, TX ... Please look that up on your tv guide and see if you can watch his shows. I think it will help you prepare for going to Church and becoming a Christian.
Best of Luck.

Sure. I do so often. But for the best quality answers, it is often easier to cut and paste a polished thought already written down. The Bible contains many of these. The Word of God can hardly be 'outdated', when it was inspired by One who is timeless. Modern ideas come and go. Biblical values are eternal.

Reading and re-reading both the Old and the New Testament is food for the soul. It comforts me and brings me closer to The Father,The Son and The Holy Spirit.

Why do nonchristians seem to think its our job to convince you? We were told to spread the word, it's basically done, I can't think of any country who hasn't heard of Jesus, so why do you guys think we're suppose to make you believe? You've obviously heard the word, so that's it, you either believe it or not, its your decision. So no, I can't tell you why you should believe anything. All I can tell you is why I believe. I believe because I know it's true, when I walk thru the woods I realize it was all done on purpose, every tree is different, every creature in the woods is different. They all have a purpose, which to me negates the whole big bang stuff. This was no accident. Then of course, there's so much prophecy in the bible that came true. Of course, there's a lot more, but that's the down to the basic reasons for my personal belief.

Without the AUTHORITY of the inspired word of God, my answers would just be opinions.
Your opinion that the bible is outdated shows me you are only interested in arguing and not truth. If we approach these questions in the power of thought, feeling, and preconceptions of human intellect alone, then it is a futile exercise.
What ever argument I present, I present it from the perspective that the word of God is greater than what feeble men can offer.

Pretty outdated, huh?
Truth is not diluted with time. It's as valid today as when it was written - maybe more so. If and when you ever get into it you'll find it's a living document. He speaks through it. Call me a nut.......I'll wait...... Thank you.
.......why I should believe what they do?
Don't believe in what I do.
Believe in the Lord.
Oops. Almost forgot...

Your personal feeling as and beliefs shall pass away someday, but the word of God that comes from the bible shall live on forever. And I stand on God's word. Praise the Lord...
Isaiah 40:8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
It is clear that you are going to believe what ever you want, and dont care what Christians think, for you bash their beliefs that their foundation is the word of God that comes from the bible.
Praying for you.
