First of all, my ancestors didn't come from England. Second of all, Spanish is not our language. You can complain all you want, but English is the proper language for this country, and if you can't accept that, then get out. You can expect no accomodation from me.
Do people who bring up the Indian issue know anything about history? They moved here just like everyone else. Jesus Christ! The two theories as to how they moved here are by boat and over the "land bridge." They are just as much immigrants as European colonists, but like European colonists, they're not illegal.

I agree that a poly-lingual, poly-cultural and poly-colour country of immigrants in a culture of tolerance is the essential lifeblood of a socially successful nation. I see that there is a distinct lack of tolerance in the sentiments that have been expressed by you. I live in India where in a single neighbourhood you might encounter people of more than a 100 distinct communities and sub-communities at every corner with linguistic divides, if we had such an attitude, India would have been a fragmented nation by now. The language that bridges the gap between us is very often ,English .I can very well understand your ire at having the English language thrust upon you as a mandatory right of passage into the American community. However we need to respect the fact that native English speakers will communicate in the language that they are conversant with, as you would communicate in Spanish. Both languages should be introduced as voluntary courses at student level and if viewed rationally, the benefits of learning a new languages far outweigh the disdvantages. This approach of tolerance holds true for the English speaking community as well to avoid the snobbish and egotistical tendencies they often fall prey to.

Even if we wanted it, we wouldn't get it. The question is not what we want it is what our immigration sevice will deliver depending on what is best (in their determination) for the USA. The American people deligated the authority to that body of government to uphold the laws, patrol the borders and assure American that a balanced, just, fair and appropriate group from all cultures comes, LEGALLY to America.
This has not happened due to criminality and an invasion by Illegal (mostly Mexican) aliens.
They come without authority or support of law. They come requiring that we learn and speak their language etc. etc. ad nausea.
The misguided question you ask portrays the dismal attitude of most hispanics (mostly Mexicans) and is the very reason the majority will be asked to leave soon and kept at bay by walls, watch groups and employer related sanctions.
What Mexico has recently done to the USA is an act of WAR. Make no mistake about it. Breaking border protocol, not following the laws of a country and conspiring to fraud on many different levels to undermine any country is an act of war. Add to that this foolish mandate that Americans should learn to speak Spanish is proof of what I speak.
Go back to your native country. If you are American, wake up to the reality that your country is being besieged by criminal aliens who have no vested interest but their own and have alligiance to only Mexico. They are here to suck the lifes blood out of the US and then, when they have ruined this country (as they have in Mexico) they will move on, like the horde of consuming locusts they are, to their next ruinous venture.

Albuquerque New Mexico is having it’s tri-centennial this year, Santa Fe was founded in 1591, pre-dating everything American. Spanish has been a common language in New Mexico since the first settlement of Mesilla NM founded in 1545. The English language came much later, many families here have older relatives that have never spoken English. They are as American as any of you, in fact more so, their families have lived on the same land for generations predating New Mexico’s becoming a state. You folks need to be tolerant of those old American families who just happen to look and speak a little differently.

And being monolingual Spanish is better than being monlingual English how?

BTW- I am not from England, and I'm betting you have got a few European(Spanish) ancestors, so you best buy your plane ticket back to Madrid.

Remember what you learned in grade school? Thanksgiving? We are a country of immigrants. The pilgrims left England for religious freedom. Immigrants came from all over the world and for many different reasons. Most came willingly and some (slaves) were forced to be here, but unless you are an Eskimo or an American Indian, you're here because you or your relatives were somewhere else and came here.

You want to live in a homogeneous society, where everyone looks the same and speaks the same language and believes the same thing? Good! Emigrate. Go to Japan. They are pretty much your ideal society. Pack your bags and LEAVE.

You RACIST people have to get over it and accept the fact that unless you bring back Hitler, Americans will always be multi-cultural, multi-lingual and multi-colored.

Sayonara!

Monolingual in public business. I don't care what you speak at home or with your friends. And...your rude....why not Chinese, or Arabic or Hungarian etc....they immigrated here too. If you go to another country and leave your homeland it is YOUR responsibility to adapt to that country.....NOT OURS TO JUST YOU!!!! We have adopted alot of things from other cultures into the fabric of the American culture. And your a real idiot because if you'd get out of "your neighborhood" and from "your culture" and just "your people" you'd see there are people of all colors here and other cultures getting along just fine. Learn English and if YOUR LANGUAGE and just YOUR CULTURE and YOUR people are the be all that ends all....go SOUTH then. That's where they live. Your in America now....adapt.

Namvet,I understand what you are saying. This is not about legal Americans ,its about the "new illegal" way of thinking. That we as a country must change for them and they don't even belong in this country.Unless they enter it thru legal lawful means.

To the poster down below, ssbn why is it racists of the people who want the illegal to speak English and NOT racists for the poster to insist we speak Spanish in our own country.I think its the poster that is the racists in this dynamic.

If humans survive long enough, we will have an integrated world culture. I imagine the humans of the distant future we probably won't have would definitely look differently due to comingling of races. A good thing.

We can resolve our illegal immigration problem, given time and a willingness to compromise, and without giving away the country . Extremist attitudes won't do squat toward finding a solution.

Our countries bill of rights was written in English. Until it is changed to Spanish, then anyone seeking to enforce those rights needs to learn the language it was written in. Learn Spanish? I speak fluent Spanish and I learned in during a 6 month tour of South America. The problem with illegals in this country is that they want everything handed to them on a silver platter while they do nothing to earn it. I say give them all a bologna sandwich and a bus ride home. We do not need to cater to people who are too lazy to come here legally, much less learn the language that all business is conducted in.
