My child's portable dvd player starts spinning the disc and says it's loading then it stops. Does anyone know what could be wrong with it? Can it be fixed or do I just need to get another one?

I had exactly the same thing happen to my daughters portable DVD player.
I cleaned the lens (gently) checked the lid switch was working OK, then took it apart to check the insides, connections, pcb etc. Tried it on mains and car power.
All to no avail - threw it in the bin and bought a new one as this really only left a chip or transistor failure.
