We need them hear to stop the violence. Two of my students have been shot and killed in the last 5 years. One 16, the other 12.
The Oakland murder rate is at an all time high. The President has never visited Oakland nor his father so he probably does not know about the problems here.

I'm confused! Your former mayor, Jerry Brown Jr. (ex Governor Moonbeam) is claiming in his campaign ads for California Attorney General that he put an end to crime in Oakland. Do you mean to say that he is lying about that?

Way to lay it down swift and accurate, chapelite_av! While I agree that our country has it's own pressing matters that could be being addressed, if not with the troops, then with the funds being sent elsewhere at the moment, and regardless of the well stated legal restrictions above, Oakland isn't the top of those domestic issues either. This sounds like it should be a local issue first and foremost. For the record, I also happen to agree with the Nintendo vs. parents argument. It's easier to buy a video game than take part in a child's life, so our lazy populace goes that route instead. And let's not forget that parents can barely look at their kids cross-eyed in public without getting charged for abuse, so the kids grow up with barely any discipline because some parents don't know what to do and "honey don't do that" only goes so far, and yet we expect our society to turn out model citizens. HA!

Deploying troops to a US city is a violation of the Posse Comitatus Act (18 USC 1385). This act prohibits the use of military force (other than the National Guard, which is deployed by the Governor) in US civilian populaces for law & order operations. The exception is if martial law is declared.

the place have you ever been? The invasion of Iraq exchange into in March 2003, no longer "some months" after the twin Towers bombing. And al Maliki has been in his place below a year. It took him some months (massive marvel) to gather adequate political means to have the flexibility to rein in a number of his tentative supporters, and that is in basic terms been a rely of weeks in view that he's been able to paintings on communities like the Mahdists. thinking what number diverse communities he has to get to paintings mutually, i think of you're asking somewhat lots. Gamblers do no longer provide up the sport in simple terms by way of fact each and every hand isn't a on the instant flush.

I think you skipped a President in the middle there --- although he wasn't that memorable Billy-Bob was in office between the two. Did he come visit you?

It is a shame that our society has this increase in crime ... it seems that ever since Nintendo babysits more kids than mom and dad things have just gone to pot.

Hey Sunshine ... glad you could join us on this discussion .... You may however want to re-read the question. The asker actually referred to the current and 1 prior President but skipped one in the middle. If we are going to include past Presidents then lets include them all.

NO. It's called Posse Comitatus. The President cannot just deploy the Army for domestic use whenever he feels like it. Nor should he be able to.

There is a reason Congress passed the Posse Comitatus Act and why the Constitution puts limits on the maintenance of a standing Army in times of peace. The men who wrote the Constitution had watched their own army deployed to maintain "order" in the streets of their cities. They had witnessed the abuses of their civil rights and the violence that had resulted.

As Ronald Reagan once put it "The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help.' ".

You should be asking “What I can I and my community do to solve the problem”?

Doing otherwise will only strengthen the decline of our country into the “Oprah Nation”, one that glorifies victims instead of heroes, one that puts faith in the State instead of the Individual, one that cares more about finding someone to blame for problems than it does about solving them. As Ben Franklin said “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety”.

As far as the GWOT ( Global War on Terror) goes, the whole reason we ( professional soldiers like myself) are forced to fight in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere against Islamic Fascism, is that men like UBL mistakenly believed Americans are weak, and have no stomach to shed blood and treasure opposing them. Weakness invites predators, among men as among animals. UBL and his gang are wolves who thought they smelled blood prior to 9/11. If we cut and run now, they will only grow bolder, and bring their war into our streets again.

George Orwell said "People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." I stand ready to do violence on your behalf, but I would much rather do it in the streets of Iraq than the streets of Oakland, California.

Why doesn't Oakland do something about it?
Whining to the federal government doesn't accomplish much.
Most cities take care of themselves.

Already blaming on Clinton? This "asker" wants to bring up why BUSH isn't doing anything. Bush is the one in office right now, don't complain and whine about an ex-president whom can't do what Bush can because Clinton's not in office.

(I'm so sorry for your losses)

Tell me,and I quote this from another president"Ask not what your country can do for you,but what you could do for your country"...so in this what have you done to stop this, after all you are asking someone else to clean up the mess, why not start on your corner, maybe it'll catch on.....................p.s.I know this sounds sh!tty but after all isn't it all of us and the parents that have failed?????
