I know that when I die I'll go to Heaven, but I am having a hard time working towards goals because I know that in the end they won't exist anymore. How do I go on with my life and live it to the fullest as I should? I find myself thinking about this at least 5 times a day.

You are way too concerned about your life and your afterlife. This is actually a form of self-centeredness. It's as if you believed that nothing matters except your own life, and if you can't do things that will permanently make your life better, then there's nothing else worth doing. This is called "navel gazing."

What you should be concerned about if you want to have a meaningful life is making the world a better place for the people living now and in the future (hopefully, the good you do will extend beyond your lifetime.) Immerse yourself in activities that make life better for your family, friends, pets, community, and the world at large, and you won't have time to obsess about how these things benefit you.

You may think that this attitude does not maximize your own personal happiness. Actually this attitude is the only thing that gives lasting happiness. If you speak to wise old people, you will find that they find greatest satisfaction in the relationships they have formed (the result of extending themselves), the work they have done, and the good they have accomplished.

I think the less time devoted to contemplation of the afterlife, the better. If you believe in an afterlife, you must believe in a God whom you can trust. Let God worry about the afterlife. You focus on the life you have now. Enjoy your life in a way that is not destructive to yourself and others. Be a force for the positive in this world. Everybody can do this in their own way.

I used to struggle lots with this issue as well... to the point that I was almost paralyzed in moving forward... my personal resolution was to live my life to make my Father who is in heaven proud of me... to make my time here count for something... I am not religious in a ritual kinda way but I do believe in God and I try to live my life in such a way that when I am called "home" I will have some good stuff on my resume

I can understand how hyperfocusing on the future (in this case the afterlife) can hamper your functionality... it will take concentrated effort and perseverence on your part to work past this... easier said than done, I know but it can be done...

take time each day to focus on the present... become more aware of what's going on around you (and even sometimes perhaps because of you)... cherish each moment cause same as you don't know what comes after this, you don't know which moment will be your last....

anyway, that's just how I see it
hope you find some solace and peace

It can be frightening thinking like this. What is it all about and why bother etc. But our ex. Prime Minister said something once that helped to inspire me : 'If everyone felt like that then no one would ever plant a tree'

We are all here on this planet living together so we need to work towards the goals of self satisfaction, supporting and caring for others to help them to enjoy their time here and work so that there will be a future for the following generations to come.

The Bible says that there's a day of reckoning....that on that day you're judged not by what you have or how much you earned; but by what you did with the time and talents you had - how many ppl you helped, how much you improved as a person.

You seem like you're stuck at a crossroad - if your life were already full, you wouldn't have asked this. So I think you need to be involved with something meaningful, something that brings happiness to others and to you. That, I think, is the key to a peaceful afterlife....living this one well.

Think of your goals as dreams...

In life, you try to make your dreams become reality.

That way you can die happy knowing you've had a good life, acomplished what you set out to do and not waisted the time you have been given.

I hope this helps : )

Do things which will have lasting results. Being positive and helpful will brighten people's moods, and send a chain of happiness that could go on and on. You might be surprised! Help people and try to enjoy your life as much as you can.
