because they are horribly addicted. They NEED the cigarette. It overcomes all fears of what it does to your apprearance and health. It's a sickness.

They do understand this. They started smoking to fit in most likely and now that they have been smoking for a long time it has become addicting. I'm a social smoker (maybe once or twice every month). I agree that it's not an attractive thing to do. But sometimes it just feels good. I'm in university now and it just feels like a good relaxing technique from all of the exams that I have to take.

I am a smoker of 33 years and if I could quit I would I do not bum ciggerettes and am in very good shape can hold my breath for over 2 minutes can you? I respect others and do not smoke in front of them and in public allways down wind glad you don't smoke but you are also very clueless are you addicted to anything?

Smoking affects each person differently. Over all, yes it ages the body, but for some it isn't readily noticeable until they reach age 50 or so. Quitting at age 30 would definitely improve their appearances later in life.
What really bothers me is that smokers tend to ignore what their smoking does to people around them - family, friends, passersby in life.

they do understand but they refuse to accept because that is their way of justifyng and convincing themselves that there is no harm in smoking. and it does not matter to them if the people around them inhale their smoke, as long as they satisfy themselves. selfish, arent they!
