What about 500 calories?

Also, where can I buy good, cheap pedometers (sp)?

When you walk 10,000 steps a day you burn an extra 300 to 400 calories a day. If you walk at a faster than normal pace, and swing your arms when you walk, you can burn an extra 50 to 100 calories a day. Running, however, will not make you burn more calories than a fast-paced walk that gives you "an aerobic workout." By this we mean: walking at a rate that raises your heartbeat to an aerobic level. This level is measured as 60% to 85% of the fastest rate your heart will safely beat. Before doing any aerobic exercises, you need to check with your doctor to find your appropriate heartbeat rate for an aerobic workout. This will depend on your age, health, weight, and normal activity level.

Wal-Mart,
K-Mart..
I have been walking 10,000 steps a day for a year, I have lost 53 lbs and still eat as I did before walking.

I don't think your body burns 100/hr doing nothing considering biking burns about 350/hr (150 lb person) that is too little of a difference. The ice water thing is true but it is a very little difference but every bit counts i suppose. There's no way to really tell exactly how much your body burns naturally even if you find websites where you put in your weight etc because everyone is born with a different ability to burn these calories. The more you weigh the more calories you burn though. Your calorie burning ability or metabolism is raised during the few hours after a work out, so working out daily has this added benefit as well. Also, adding muscle to your body helps burn more calories while doing nothing! If you are a woman, I'd suggest eating about 1200-1600 calories a day depending on your current weight now. Some tips that helped me loose weight include 1. Drinking water/ unsweetened decaffeinated tea throughout the day 2. Moving about whenever I could (e.i. walking while talking on the phone instead of sitting) this can even include fidgeting at a desk job! 3. Eating 5 or 6 small meals (200-300 each) instead of 3 regularly sized ones help because this helps keeps your metabolism raised. 4. Eating around 25-30 grams of fiber daily. this helps keep you regular and deplete the bloat that can add an additional 5 pounds

The number of calories that you burn depends on your weight and the intensity of your exercise (e.g., walking pace, uphill, etc.). There is a table of calories for particular exercises and body size at the link below.

Inexpensive pedometers are everywhere as you can see from the previous answers.

According to my cousin, she is a doctor. She says.. a person should walk 2 to 3 miles regularly to stay fit. But if you wanna burn extra calories... then depending upon the diet you eat...muss burn the calories your diet provides.. and then the extra calories... while exercising.. when you get tired... and after getting tired your extra exercise will burn your extra fats.... lol last sentence is suggested by me... Lol.. TC
