As between the 2, the Sheltands are more amenable to training, more eager to please and more willing to play - they LOVE obedience work and agility.

Of course, that depends upon what you want the dog to do.

If you don't like playing or engaging in acitivities to keep their minds busy so they aren't bored - a bichon is the better choice - laps, couches and yawn.

Bichons take more grooming and fussing. Run a brush through the Sheltie and go.

With these two breeds, you are comparing apples and green beans.

both breeds are good it really all depends on whether you want a small dog or a semi small dog because a bichon is small and the shetland is small but bigger than a bichon (it's a mini lassie). Also you have to think about where you live a shetland is a natural herder so it likes to be able to get out and run and herd, a bichon is perfectly suitable for a apartment type setting because it doesn't require as much exercise. i`d say a bichon frise my nabors little girl has to of them they are so cute and they never shead!!
