true they do make it hard for a serious question to have enough time on the front of the answers page to get a serious answer.
very few of them are true non believers. it is a game that they are playing.
most are confused children searching for answers, and do not know how to state their view or question, so they make fun of what they do not understand.
they make outlandish statements in the hope of sounding intelligent, and to try to impress the other children on here.
eventually they get bored and go away or use up their points asking silly question.
and start over with a new identity.
if we remain respectful on the serious questions and have fun with the silly one then they will learn that Christians are not as bad they want to believe.
the problem is that there are also some pretending to be Christians for the same reason.

That's a good point, IronNinja, but there are a couple of other things to consider. One is that you probably live your real life around people who don't always believe the same things you do. The Y!A community is as wide open as a real community and so it's a good place to practice interacting with others in a safe environment. Also, if you look around on the web, you could find discussion boards where there are people who agree with your point of view and you could go there if those are the only kind of people you want to talk to. It isn't like that here. This section is called religion and spirituality and even non-religious people can be spiritual. And there are many other religions besides your own. If you can learn how to stay calm in a crazy place like this, you might learn to stay calm in the other parts of your life. And you might even learn something from someone you wouldn't have normally listened to.
Not me. Other people.
And- here's the tricky part- very many of the thoughts and ideas that are called "beliefs" are statements without evidence. With evidence, they'd be called facts. I personally find it thought-provoking and challenging to have my beliefs questioned. I also enjoy teaching myself to stay calm when other people are raging and fuming and ranting and flaming.
Of the over 100 sections you mention, where does a Buddhist go? Or a Hindu? How about Native Americans? Or Rastas? This is the section for everyone's (and anyone's) questions and answers about religion and spirituality.
Here's a tip: if you ask a question and you get answers you don't like, just click the "thumbs down" button and the answer will collapse from your view.

And if I ask a religious question, I'm likely to be made fun of, called a gullible fool, and get answers with statements that have no real evidence. Do you feel special now? You should be careful what you wish for. Do you want a new section called the Religion and Spirituality Controversy? Would you go on that one and say the same thing.. you know, I think that you would.

I'll do my best not to throw any insults at you, though you certainly make it difficult.
First off, nonbelievers don't come here to *do* anything to you. Many nonbelievers think of their atheism as a religion, and many more atheists and agnostics feel that they have a sense of spirituality. We belong here just as much as you do. Though I'm curious ... what forum do you think discussions of atheism or agnosticism would belong, rather than here? This is the most fitting I've found.
Second, we come here because your religious beliefs affect us. Your religious beliefs cause some fellow believers to put us down, call us fools, etc. both on this forum and in real life. I don't believe in retaliation, but I can see how some nonbelievers wouldn't want to sit there and listen to other people call them idiots when those believers are the ones who have no facts behind their beliefs.

This is another symptom of a dogmatists not being able to discern the obvious. Did you see the big sign over the top that says "Ask .. Answer?" Did you notice the absence of a sign that says "Rah! Rah! Rah! This is the God-cheering section?"
Now .. let's put these together and what do we get? Yes! A Q&A forum ABOUT religious subjects. Now, wasn't that easy?

the section is for asking questions and receiving answers about religious and spirituality topics. Anyone should be welcome here, whether or not they practice a religion, so long as they are being respectful and following the Yahoo guidelines.
I don't have diabetes, but I sometimes ask a question under the diabetes section. That's where I'd go to ask a question I was wondering about diabetes. In the same way, this is where anyone - a believer or not - would go to ask a question about religion or spirituality.

This is my 23rd answer to the same question:
This is NOT "Religion & Spirituality." It is a question and answer forum on the issues of "Religion and Spirituality." And if you can't tell the difference, then consider this:
Right below this section there is a "Royalty" section. Do you believe it's reserved for Dukes and Earls? How about the one on Illnesses - do I have to have cancer in order to participate?
Spread the word. This is getting tiresome.

They come here because they're interested in religion or spirituality, the same as everyone else.
This section isn't dedicated to theists, it's dedicated to questions and answers relating to religion and spirituality.

This section does not specify WHAT relgion or Spirituallity one must beleive in, before coming here;
it merely titles the heading "Rel and Spir".
There is no requirment for posting and anynone with ANY beleiving or (non) beleiving, they might have.
The one who writes that you 'are insecure in your faith', is critisizing you, even though you are asking a realistic question;
to answer that q- it has nothing to do with being insecure about your faith, it has to do with understanding this seciton of Yahoo Answers, thats all. Cary, Il.

If you have not noticed, this is also the SOCIETY AND CULTURE section, we are part of that as well. As for being specifically in the religion and spirituality section, many are interested in the subject. Many want information, many STUDY IT.
