Especially if he is jealous? Psycologicly, Jealousy is a sign of insecurity and doubt in yourself. How can somthing that is perfect have this type of flaw?

5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

What do you mean by "perfect"? I can say that I am a perfect person without lying because my definition of perfect is me. I am not really that vain, but perfect means different things to different people. If you predicate your belief system on the idea that anything God does is exactly what should be done, then the only conclusion that can be made is that God is perfect. Jealousy, hate, killing, giving people free will...

Your reasoning is flawed...By the way God created that. It is your assertion that jealousy is a Character flaw...So if your mom truly valued your brother above you. You would not be jealous because you know you are better?....Otherwise you have the character flaw? Nope friend that isn't rational the fault is with the offending party even if you are far superior it wouldn't matter...But none the less consider your reasonability is created by HIM How could yours be better than the one who created it? Where did your reasoning ability come from if not from God?

God is perfect. Translators are not.

The Hebrew word for jealous is a unique word only used as an attribute of God Almighty.

In the Hebrew lexicon: used of God as not bearing any rival; the severe avenger of departure from himself.

In other words, worship God and Him ONLY.

Jealousy is employed in a positive sense by God to protect us from harm - the destruction that false gods will bring.

The use of the word "jealous" in these verses means "Intolerant of unfaithfulness or rivalry."

If your wife cheated on you, you would be showing jealousy by taking action to fix the situation. Would that be wrong? No.

:o) I can answer this. God is jealous FOR us, not of us. He wants only the best for us.

From Living Proof Ministries:
Exodus 20:5 tells us that God Himself is a jealous God: "You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God."

Note the kind of jealousy God possesses:

"The LORD will be jealous for his land and take pity on his people" (Joel 2:18).

"This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'I am very jealous for Jerusalem and Zion'" (Zech. 1:14).

"This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'I am very jealous for Zion; I am burning with jealousy for her' " (Zech. 8:2).

Did you see that giant three-letter word modifying each instance of jealousy? A very big difference exists between being jealous of someone and being jealous for someone. Jealousy of someone is a selfish desire for what that person has. Envy motivates such jealousy. Jealousy for someone is a selfless desire for that person to have and be the best. Love motivates selfless jealousy. God is jealous on our behalf. He is jealous for us to know the One True God. He is jealous for us to be in a posture of blessing. He is jealous for us to be kept from the evil one. He is jealous for us to be ready for our Bridegroom. Jealousy for someone's best is of God. Jealousy of someone's best is of the enemy.

Jealousy ....like hate and pride have a positive side.
They are usually thought of in a negative sense, but one must not forget they have a positive side.
If someone mis-pronounces your name, you may correct them.
You are jealous for your name.
And that is fine.
