Does everyone struggle with this? How do I do this (without therapy)? It gets in the way of everything I do.

yes..everyone..I know it seems hard..but what you have to do is believe in yourself..and pretend and act confident..because if you dont people will know you dont and treat you like your not confident in yourself..so act like who cares? and be confident.act powerful and not scared.

Greetings:

Good question. We all tend to live within a conditioned self-image--a view of ourselves based on our experience in our family and in our culture. Others views about us as we;re growing up become a basis for our own views about ourselves.

Interesting truth: whether or not our self-image is accurate or not--we'll think, feel and act in accord with it!

That's like starring in a waking dream 24-7. All self-images are awash in intermittent self-doubt, fear, hesitation and shaky uncertainty.

Our self-image is akin to our wrong address, ie not our true home--but we live there anyway. If we can "wake up" and find our "true address", we can relocate there and live from the Heart with more confidence, self-assurance and certainty.

Therapy, spiritual practice and so on--at their best--can help this effort. As can the knowledge and tools for "how to relocate".

Unshakable Certainty and confidence comes with the connection with our deepest nature--and the conviction that we need not protect or defend ourselves because we are simply who we are.

Self-doubt, fear, insecurity--it's all weather--the key is not to let it define your reality or pssess you with its story line.

Be kind and generous to yourself...don't pull yourself over and give yourself tickets for being less than you should be. It's a nasty human habit.

Best of luck...Jim M.

If everyone in the world lived by the golden rule(treat people the way you would like to be treated)(do unto others as you would like done to yourself) what a great world this would be.

Remember the things you can do well. People need you just as you need other people even though you may not realize it yet.

You have to tell yourself everyday that you are worthwhile and that you deserve good things. That's what my therapist tells me to say to myself everyday. Repeat it as many times as you need to.
