I'm a US Army recruiter. The easiest way to your first promotion is to refer someone else and if they enlist before you leave you will enter as an E-2. Plus the SMART(Sergeant Major of the Army Recruiting Team) program is how you enter their info online; https://www.usarec.army.mil/smart/. Once they graduate AIT you will receive a $1000.00 bonus automatically into your account. Each person you help enlist is another bonus as long as they are not prior service. This program is also available to active duty and US Army retirees.

The only way to get promoted is attached at the link below. When I was an Army Recruiter, most who were promoted prior to shipping was through a referral of a friend to join. When that friend joined, the person who referred them would get advanced to pay grade E-2.
There are other ways, but I don't recall a test to get it. Go to the link below, and look at the other options. Hope it helps, and congratulations for choosing to serve!

there are a few ways to get promoted before you leave.
1. college
2 complete a training plan (to include passing a PT test) of common tasks (administered by your recruiter)
3. refer people (one person with a 70 QT, or two with below a 70)
You can complete correspondence courses that will help you when you're going for e-5. Just do a search for "army correspondence course program". That won't get you promoted before you go.

Whoever told you that needs to be locked away. The only way you get promoted is through normal channels like everyone else. You work your rear off and do as you are told and try to do better every day. If you believe you can get promoted online, contact the army website It is on the television almost daily off and on.

Because they lied to get you on the job. You've been duped. I only hope you don't get killed before you die. Move to Canada. Good luck.
