preferably one that is made in a deep and long (rectangular shape) casserole dish, the white ovenproof baking dishes, and a recipe that makes this dish with a pie crust at the top, showing the shape of a fish, like this: http://www.historicfood.com/Design/Assets/Images/Thumbnails/fish-piethmb.jpg

I'm not sure if its a pot pie or a casserole, or a mix of both. Please help, thanks. And if you have a photo of it, please post the link here.

I like to eat herring at a buffet but have never heard of a herring pot pie. Cold herring is not very fishy tasting (which is part of its appeal to me) but I bet a hot pie would have a taste that would destroy most people's enthusiasm for pie. Not to mention that it would take a week to get the fishy smell out of your house.

Good luck on your quest. Please do not send me a slice when you have it done.

I'm sorry, I don't have any recipes for herring in my cookbooks.
However, I did find a recipe for "Pickled Herring Casserole" at:

Good luck with this.
