Yes. There were two cases in New York City a little more than a year ago. A husband and wife came down with Bubonic plague shortly after arriving in Manhattan. Their home is in the South West US where plague is still found from time to time. They don't know how they got it but small mammals trapped on their property were positive for plague.

The CDC investigated this case. There have been other cases but usually the people become ill near where they caught the disease. In the present case it was just coincidence that Bubonic Plague ruined their vacation and worse.

Oh yes. Bubonic Plague still exists. Very rare now a days, but still exists. The CDC has been able to control the spread of this disease. Mainly fleas in the west, desert prarie lands contain this diseases but still very rare.

yes. Bubonic plague still exist. I live in Kern County in CA. We used to live out in the hills. It was not uncommon to have isolated cases and occasionally a massive outbreak. The rodents here, especially round squirrels carry these fleas. We got several cats who were know for the mouse killing abilities to help keep the rodent population down.
