according to planned parenthood info the mirena has a .1% failure rate... the paraGard (copper T 380A) has a failure rate of .8%... as comparison the birth control pill with perfect use (same time everyday, no missed pills, no antibiotic use ect.) is a .3% failure rate. so i'd say yeah its very dependalbe particularly the mirena since not many options give only a .1% faliure rate... heck condoms with proper use still have a fail rate of 2.0%.

My doctor claims IUDs are even more effective than sterilization when used correctly. But then there's always those stories about them moving and people getting pregnant. I think every form of birth control has it's chances of failing. So people should never had intercourse unless a pregnancy wouldn't completely ruin their lives. But I've heard IUDs are one of the best birth control choices.
