These are the places in Asia which I have been:
1. Beijing, China - for the sake of Great Wall and the Forbidden City. Air poluttion on the rise.
2. Shanghai. China - most developed city in China, great place to try out some chinese foodie.
3. Bangkok, Thailand - great place to shop, food is good if you are adventurous enuf to try the street snacks.
4. Krabi/Phi Phi Island, Thailand - one of most beautiful places and beaches to relax
5. Langkawi, Malaysia - beautiful island to rest and relax, duty-free island..
6. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - great food, has nice malls to shop around. But beware of rising crimes.
7. Kota Kinabalu, Sabah - climb the Mt Kinabalu, highest peak in Asia.
8. Sipadan, Sabah - one of world's best dive spot
9. Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam - interesting city post Nam War. Tour Mekong river, Chuchi tunnel and Dalat highlands.
10. Singapore - clean city, great food
11. Bali, Indonesia - rest and relax on beach resort.
12. Agra/Jaipur, India - for Taj Mahal sake. interesting cultural and history. Beware of pick pockets and do not give money, food or anything to anyone on street.
13. New Delhi, India - your heart will grieven by the sight you would be behold on streets..
14. Goa, India - nice beach and laid back surroundings
15. Shimla, India - a cool contrast to New Delhi.

South Asia will be an ideal place to backpack. China would be difficult because of language barriers and some places are far apart, not backpacking friendly. Japan and Korea are not cheap by backpacking standards.

Very vague question. I shall give vague answers, based on my experience backpacking around Southeast Asia:

1. Asia is unlike anything an American or European would expect. It's loud, crowded, and smells kinda funky. The languages are incomprehensible, the public officials corrupt, the water unsafe, the food questionable, and the hotels uncomfortable.

2. It's a freaking awesome place to visit! It's such a culture shock that you're left with a wonderful appreciation of the world's diversity.

So good, try things, ask questions. Keep an eye on your wallet, don't buy drugs from just anybody, use protection, be aware that many of the hookers are transvestites (my buddy got that one wrong), and have a good time.

It really depends on what you want to do.Bangkok is very much a bustly city wheras Chiag mai is a bit more laid back and the there is the coastal places to see which are beautiful Air asia flys to a lot of places now so you can go further afield in your time. Malaysia, Penang is good. There is also the oppertunity to visit vietnam, Laos, Cambodia from Bangkok. Singapore is also very accessible so you need to think how you want to spend your time. I have been going to that area for the past 3 years and still have got lots of places I want to see. Relax and enjoy, travel, hotels and food are pretty cheap but you will need to do your homework. look at hotels on trip advisor as you can see other travellers comments and they have always been spot on for me.

Hmm...Asia is a mighty big continent you're talking about here. Maybe you should be specific and list down the asian countries youre lookin at.
