the BEST program of ID Theft Protection:
NEVER let your spouse know your Credit information -- EVER (because as an ex-spouse, they DO use that information AFTER the divorce to continue to harm you financially)
NEVER let your SSN or Driver's License be printed on any Check you make out to ANY place where you are making purchases. Instead, you should use your Debit Card or Credit Card for the most security.
NEVER put your Access Code or Password on the backs or any other part of your purse, on you, on the Debit/Credit Cards, whatever -- because when you lose those cards (or worse yet, the cards/purse is stolen), then you are wide open for identity theft.
NEVER carry your SSN card in your wallet -- always put it in your Safe Box -- and leave it there -- UNLESS you need it for one specific purpose -- when applying for a job or for some verification from a reliable organization.
NEVER place your DD214 for Recording with your county's recorder -- that is PRIME Information for Identity Theft.
NEVER order over the phone -- ever.
NEVER use an insecure (not-encrypted) site to order things from the internet. ALWAYS use Secure (Encrypted) sites to make purchases -- and make sure that the information is NOT stored for future reference (you can select to NOT store your Financial info when you make the purchase).
ALWAYS reconcile ALL your financial statements -- credit cards, checking accounts, whatever. ALWAYS do this on a regular basis -- designate a day/time or whatever to sit down and do this. The faster you catch an error -- the easier it is to correct that error.
NEVER allow any Mediator in a Divorce Proceeding to have ANY access to your SSN, Your Driver's License, whatever -- even the bank statements. These individuals are WHERE MY EX got the INFORMATION to STEAL MY IDENTITY after the DIVORCE!

Your best bet is to sign up for all three credit unions ID theft monitoring. It will notify you of any activity on your credit report. There are other ways, but your credit rports is what you want to protect and it will notify you ASAP of anything you are not aware of.
