Golden Retriever

It would depend on what you wanted the dog for. Border collies are great with agility trials but they are very active and need a "job". Golden retrievers are great dogs and may be a little less "active".

You should probably thoroughly read about both breeds before you make your decision. There are many breed rescue groups where you can find a terrific animal companion. Sometimes they have puppies or young dogs if that is what you would prefer. My husband is a retired K-9 officer and we ran a rescue for Dobermans and German Shepards. Over the past 30 years we have shared our home with many rescue dogs and they have all been wonderful companions.

Good luck with whatever choice you make.

A lot of this depends on "you". Border collies have an "extreme" amout of energy, so be prepared. If you have a border collie in your life, and you don't give them the attention they crave, they will find it elsewhere. Golden retrievers are also energetic, but not "nearly" as much as the B. collie. Both dogs are very smart, and equally easy to train. Both of these dogs are in the top 5
of the smartest dogs. Can't tell you which one to pick, but good luck, there both great dogs.

I would get either- I've had a border collie and a golden retriever before and they were both amazing, just beautiful dogs.

Both are great breeds but PLEASE realize that if you get a border collie you will HAVE to keep him/her busy. Borders are working dogs. They are sue to DOING things. If you do not keep them busy they WILL find something to do. This is why many people think Borders are destructive. They're not at all if their owner keeps them busy.

Also, I wouldn't recommend a border if you have small children. Borders are herding dogs. If left alone (this is NOT a joke) they WILL try to herd your children. Borders will even snap if what they're herding doesn't obey. Again, people that have this happen think that Borders are a bad breed. This is not true.

PLEASE research ANY breed of dog you're thinking of getting. They're all cute and smart but some have distinct personalities and need a certain type of owner.

Good luck! :)

I have a boder collie and they're great and all ,but I would rather have a golden retriever any day.Goldens are cuter as puppies and they are so soft and cuddly. They are great dogs to play with and when then get older they are just as much fun and they are also very very loyal. They also train well.

Neither one! Border collies need an incredible amount of exercise, plus they need work to keep their minds occupied or they can become very destructive out of boredom and frustration.

Both of these breeds are much too hyper for me - I want a dog who can run when it's time, play when it's time, and then relax.

I would go with the Border Collie, they are highly intelligent, come in a wide variety of colors and some of them have gorgeous eyes, they are great! Retrievers are great too, but they are so common, you see them everywhere.

It depends. Do you want a dog that will be loyal or one that jumps all around and is much more interactive??? do u have a lot of property or would it be an indoor dog? if u don't have property i wouldn't suggest a border collie....we LOVE our border collie to death, but he does need a LOT of exercise and we have to walk him atleast twice a day or he's a ball of energy...if u don't want one that takes a lot of attention, get a retriever.....it just depends...let us know wat u get !!!
