Sorry, my friend, there is nothing fair in or about life!

It is what it is. The only thing that can make it fair for any of us is the choices each of us make as individuals.

But in the case of Christianity the extremists are trying to force others to adopt their beliefs and they aren't being challenged from within the Christian community so yes I have my suspicions that a lot of "liberal" Christians secretly agree with the extremists.

As religion suppresses reason and asks you to just believe, it is hardly surprising that it leads to unreasonable behavior.
There are more then a few Christian extremists and all religious people are part of the problem.
It is reasonable to assume that Christians agree with the fundamentalists unless they speak out vociferously against their evil.

Depends on who the individuals are.

As an example, the pope(tm) is an individual that millions and millions of people listen to. And, it's entirely fair to associate the entire belief system of the catholic church with his statements.

No. This is no different that judging all Muslims by the words of Usama bin Laden.
