they want to know that you would report them to management..Advise them that you would report it to management. I wouldn't tell the employee, just leave it to mgmt to figure out or monitor the person...it's their job, not yours.

They want to know if you would report someone who you are "friends" with.

Hello Seth, Never approach a thief which steals from the company they work for!! You go to the Loss Prevention Personel and tell them that you need to speak with them in private. When in privacy tell them that you witnessed "this person" that works in "this section" putting this in their pocket. Seth stealing is stealing no matter how small an object or how little a price maybe. The reason why you dont approach that person and attempt to take matters into your own hands is because no matter how well you think that you know that person or what type of a friend you think that person maybe you have to remember one thing. That person is there for themself and themself alone!!

I work for a law enforcement agency.......that would be a big mistake for someone to come in off the street and start shoving stuff into their clothing.
I personally would have to pop someone upside the head if they took my liquid paper.

(well, won't have to worry about any of that anymore because I am retiring in two weeks)!

Good Luck on the Job interview.
I think a safe thing to say on that issue would be........
"I will do whatever I am instructed to do when I am hired".

Good answer. Generally, when you hire on, you agree to protect the company's profits. The company also usually has a policy that covers shoplifting and your responsibility to the store and what action to take..

At my job, the procedure is to call for Loss Management (got a code name to call for them at on the loud speaker). And go up to the person and ask them if they need help. But not to chase them if they run.

If you did not report it to your supervisor, you are as guilty as the person doing the crime. That is like being a bartender or working where alcohol is sold. Whoever sells it is just as guilty as the person buying it.

Most companys want you to only report it to a supervisor or loss prevention because of law suit consideration. Best answer is report it to a supervisor
