It seems like they spend too much time on YOUR own history, that's why you guys develop a feeling of superiority and selfishness. You don't know how your government messes with other countries and keeps them from developing, then when you get the results (illegal immigration) you whine, whine, and whine. The United Nations has received more vetoes from the U.S. than from any other country.

President Roosevelt once admited "Any country whose people conduct themselves well can count upon our hearty friendship," he said. "Chronic wrongdoing, however, . . . may force the United States to exercise an international police power." Teddy didn't hesitate to use this "police power" to strengthen his country, but he was always careful not to upset the balance of world power.

I actually agree. I never learn anything other than US history and it bores me to death. This is like my eigth year taking some form of it (and it's not because I don't know it. I go to a prep school and have an A in the class). I've switched schools a few times so I end up taking it over and over. I have to figure out most other histories on my own, except for a 20th century class and civics class I took my last two years. It works out for me, though, because I learn pretty quickly.

I'm studying world history of my own accord. I've spent long hours researching upon every book I could get my hands on, I've been to a good deal of places in the world, and I have observed differences in people and history in these areas. I have lived in England for 3 years and in that time I travelled to France, Spain, Italy, Germany, part of Russia, gone to Africa on a support group to help villages get clean water, and I've been to Norway and parts of Ukraine.
So, why don't you just shut up and stop generalising? Not all American people are as you say the are. Plus, guess what? America is a LARGE country, with MANY people, and they actually SUPPORT the U.N., unlike China...

Perhaps yes, there should be a madatory standard for learning across the states and in counties for elementary and high schools. Maybe some world geography? Perhaps some Social Studies? Maybe throw in a language or two. If alll this was standard, we'd have a very different global opinion of Amercians.
re Bush in Africa - that would be a geography thing more than world history - no?

I fully agree, especially with emphasis on the treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo, and the Gadsden Purchase. Those two apparently got pretty sadly neglected in the old history class...moreso in Mexico than in the United States, though.
And, while we're on the subject of history, should we call Spain and France to come help Mexico get their act together? Both countries have been there...I guess they could come back and fix things...Juan Ponce De Leon knew how to take charge...

"...you whine, whine, and whine.", he whined, getting exasperated at his futile efforts to convince the American public that they are bad and should start whipping themselves.
I agree though, more world history does need to be taught in American schools. Just not for the reasons you do. Whiner.

I would be happy if they taught American History in schools. They teach some world history, but they are not going to teach subversive history. The UN is a corrupt organization that needs to either be totally revamped or go the way of the league of nations. From our point of view, most of the rest of the world are the ones that are not looking at the bigger picture.

Yes, they should teach more history--and current events too. But, as you point out, in a somewhat biased way. . .history seems to always be taught from some sort of biased perspective.

I had plenty of world history in my education in American public schools. I think you mean more current events outside of the US. You don't sound like you went to school in america so how would you know?

We see other countries history in the making on CNN everyday.
We know enough to know we don't want to be them!
We reject their illegal aliens!
