This file extension is associated with archive files (like ZIP files).
You can download the archive software from www.win-rar.com

Like .zip files.
Download winrar.

RAR is the native format of WinRAR archiver. Like other archives, RAR files are data containers, they store one or several files in the compressed form. After you downloaded RAR file from Internet, you need to unpack its contents in order to use it.

No thanks. I've got my own.

What is it you wish to know about .rar files?

It's a form of compression, similar to .zip, .ace, arj, lha, etc.

You can open them using a program called Winrar. Although Winrar is a shareware program, there doesn't appear to be any cut-off period from using it.

You can get a copy from here: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
