I am Scottish but have lived in England for now around 28 years.
I have picked up a bit of the English accents but I still have my Scottish accent although not so broad.
One thing that does make me cringe is when you hear the woman shouting hey maggie, aye aye, and every other worrd is very broad, but with no disrespect meant to any of my fellow Scottish ladies they could do with cleaning up on their accents a little, after all they are supposed to be young ladies.
With all respect to all my fellow Scots, I think you will understand exactly what I mean, I am not having a go at the Scottish language, all I am getting at, and sorry girls it is to do with you, but please try and talk more nicer and keep your Scottish accent, you are young ladies so come on girls please sound more softly and nicer. I am not having a go at the girls because the guys can just be as bad, but I like a young lady to sound like a young lady but still keeping her accent, after all us Scots are proud of our country just like any other country throuout the world.
This is written with all respect meant to my Scottish folks up in Scotland, I hope I haven't offended anyone, I hope you all know what I am meaning.
Regards to all. Jimmy LOL

I've got a Geordie accent and I always cringe when I hear that kind of accent on tv or on the radio. I just think "Ugh do I sound like that?" but I can't get rid of it (not that I try that hard), but I thought it'd go away after a few years of not living there, but 15yrs on, it's still there!

I don't worry too much about English people with regional accents, but what DOES piss me off is these people from other lands a bit to the east of us coming over here, getting jobs as newsreaders and then speaking with a blatantly fake - almost Yorkshire - accent, pronouncing words like past and last to rhyme with the "at" sound instead of the "ar" sound. There's one of them on ITV news - a slightly eastern looking woman - who does that all the time, and it drives me up the ferkin wall!

No I don't cringe, but I think it's stupid they make Hugh Laurie speak with an American accent on the show House. They should just let him speak in his normal British accent. I mean who cares.

No, in fact, I think I'm under the impression that this person doesn't have an accent, unless there's another person on screen along with them with a totally different accent. The comparison then makes it obvious.

I don't really have that strong an accent, so I don't have that problem.
I hate it when I hear my voice on answerphones and things, I'm sure I don't sound that awful!
