I was rather appalled after witnessing what I believe to be what shouldn't be after observing a TaeKwonDo class in progress taking place at the local YMCA. I've never seen such a blatent watered-down excuse for a martial arts class in my life. I've seen six-year old yellow belts who demonstrate better technique than some of these so called black belts. ( Instructor included) I seriously hope that this is just an anomaly of sorts in regards to the particular orginazation with which this class is affiliated. I keep coming across the term "Mcdojo" I think this class probabaly isn't worthy even to be esteemed on that level. It's wrong! Just wrong, I tell you.

Rank is so relative to the person and situation that I don't even pay it any mind. I trust what i observe and judge as competent. Rank changes from school to school and style to style so greatly that it means nothing.
In fact when I do talk about martial arts with some one and they open up by telling me their rank then they have instantly lost their credibility.

yes, there are many McDojo out there, and for every single McDojo there is a whole gaggle of falsely informed pseudo-martial artists.
It has become safer for me to just assume that when someone tells me they train it is at a belt factory. sad but true.

A few years ago I watched a group of young boys (6 to 7 year olds). One of the boys had learned to fold a sheet of paper into an airplane. This boy was busily showing the others how to fold their own paper airplane. Now don’t be mistaken these were crude airplanes at best and when thrown, well I suppose you could call it flight. But, all afternoon these boys folded and threw their planes each bragging to the other to having the better plane. One by one they would fold another plane adding to it or taking away from it in an attempt to make a better plane. They were laughing and having a good time and done so for the rest of the day. By days end even though they were still crude by most standards the airplanes the boys were making were flying straighter and farther than those made earlier. Image their genuine sense of accomplishment.

Go back to the YMCA you’ve got a lot to learn. I believe they have something to teach you. …And if your more than you appear you might just have something to contribute.

Nobody. You can start yout own prganization & clain anything you want. Many people do just that, which is why it is so important to check out the instructors credentials before enrolling.
