It is generally the practice NOT to tip the owner of the salon, however when in doubt, you can call the salon before your appointment and ask if it is common practice to tip or not tip the owner. I once tried to tip the woman who did my nails and she told me since she was the owner, she didn't accept tips.

Hello Mary, Trust me not tipping a hair dresser is fine. Now about the 100.00 ,,,,,,,it depends on what the hair dresser did with your hair as far as amount is concerned. Did he do a perm, high lights or a whole color treatment ( which includes, shampoo, cut and style). Also keep in mind that each hair stylist company charges differently depending on where you are located. If he just charged $100.00 for a shampoo and a cut then that is way too much. And in that instance i am assuming that he works in a big city ,,,such as the city of NY or Los Angeles. Then it is time to call around to other hair stylists and get pricing and compare. As far as tipping is concerned; if a guy comes out and mows your front yard and he tells you it is going to cost $100.00. He mows it ,,,,you give him the money,,,,,,,, do you think he is going to look at you and say ,,,,,what ,,,,,,,No Tip,,,,, or even if he doesnt say it. Would you feel guilty. Trust me ,,,,,,,,, the Hairdresser is going to be Alright. Take care.

No. Do not tip a hairdresser that charges $100 for anything. And do not tip the owner.

I think you're crazy for spending that kind of money on your hair, but what do I know.

Yes, You always tip your hairdresser whether it's for your wedding and she's coming to you or you go to her shop for a regular haircut. You also should tip the makeup girl. Usually it's 20% of the total bill for each.

The only person I could see as being deserving of a tip would be the shampoo girl. It sounds like your hairdresser is already doing quite well for himself.

My haircut costs $120 each time and I go every 3 months. At the salon I go to, you are NOT supposed to tip. They consider it a rude thing for you to do. The way they think is that they get paid enough to cut your hair and by you tipping, they look at it as an insult as if you are better then them or you feel sorry for them for not making enough money. I think all service should be this way and I completely understand the concept.

Your hairdresser is rude!!!100 bucks!!!! You should go to a different hairdresser that cuts your hair for 50 bucks and if you like your hair you could give him 5$. And for 45$ you could buy yourself a tee-shirt.

Generally, yes, is is rude not to tip your cosmetologist as they, for the most part work on commission and don't get that entire $100.
That said, it is not rude to not tip the owner of a salon.

Not if they charge that much! I mean seriously, get a new hairdresser if they're charging you that much money on a stupid haircut which you could get for 20 dollars at a normal place!

Yea, it is a kinda rude. You are supposed to tip them, regardless of how much they charge you or how rich they appear. IF you find it's too much money, try switching to a hairdresser who cuts just as well, but doesn't charge as much.

=)
