Good day. I did a clean install of windows XP on one of my friends laptop. They asked me to activate windows. The product key is under my friends laptop on a certificate like sticker and i entered it. Everytime i reboot, they are still asking me to activate windows. I mean i can use the product ket and activation code here on my laptop and put it on the other but i dont want both of us in the future get that microsoft genuine advantage crap cause my copy of windows is genuine. Help? Laterz.

it basically acts like this, the software can be activated three times before you have to call micrsoft to activate the software. if its a dell the copy that came with it wouldn,t have to be because its an oem version for the laptop or desktop, if its an hp well they are crap, the code you have is just for instalation not activation. if you installed over another copy like upgrade you will have to activate it, if it was done as clean install you shoulnt have too.

You can only activate on one machine at a time (per serial number) unless of course it is one of those special ones. So just activate windows again via the internet or call microsoft and activate it by phone. Not much else you can do.
