What is it?

I made it once. It's more or less mulled wine, only with port instead of ordinary wine. So it's pretty much port heated to a bare simmer with a little bit of sugar, the juice of 1 lemon, and lots of mulling spices (that is, whole cinnamon sticks, allspice and cloves). When it comes to a simmer, turn off the heat immediately, then let it steep about 20 minutes.

I made it because I was curious about it after seeing it referred to in Jane Eyre. I should say that no one in my family much liked it except me. It's pretty strong and pretty sweet. But on a snowy day, served in small portions, it hits the spot.
