If there is any particluar reason that the relationship ended (cheating, abuse, lies, etc.) use it towards your advantage. Get mad at him and tell yourself that you don't need that in your life and you deserve to be treated better.
If it was just a good relationship that fizzled, there is really nothing that will help but time. Of course, he is going to be on your mind all the time in the beginning. You will always love him and have a place for him in your heart. But now that the relationship is over, you need to put yourself first. Don't let your thoughts of him control your new life and your future.
You should call up friends (both current and those you haven't seen in a while) and go out on the town. Do different activities with your friends to keep your mind off of your old relationship. Go to the movies, go see a play, shopping, ice skating, pumpkin carving, crafts, etc. If you don't have a lot of friends, sign up to volunteer in the community and meet people. Not only is it a great way to meet other people in general, but there are many singles that are doing the same thing! Surround yourself by friends and family who will support and love you. And most of all LOVE YOURSELF! Now get off this computer, go out, and try and have some fun! Good luck!

Ask yourself this question: what is my future if I stay in this relationship? How much is my dignity worth? What is more important: me or relationships? What value do I place on myself? What is the worst that will happen if I stay? If I give up this relationship?
I note that you have insulted yourself by implying that he is the only person you know.Lady let me tell you that he may have been the only man you have had in your life but he is definitely not the only man you know. There are millions of other men out there.
Finally, let say you never get another man in your life: What is the worse that will happen? You will be free once More to, be who you always want to be.

I think I can sort of relate, when I got out of a six year relationship all I ever knew was her, and I moved to her town to be with her. but when she left I had nothing, no where to go all of my friends were also her friends first, so I was lost. I moved back to where I grew up and saw old friends. That might be an option good luck !

I let go of a 10 year relationship. It was easy for me because I didn't like him. I was on my own for a year before I met the man that I'm married to now. It just takes patience and things will fall into place eventually, good luck!

The answer to your question is - With much difficulty. But, you must have reasons for needing to let go. So, I respect that. I guess you need to take it one day at a time. Keep busy, go out and see people. You never know when you might run into 'Mr. Right'. Good luck.

It won't be easy and for that reason you must be strong and independent. You will have to relearn everything you have done over the past 11 years and do them yourself. Once you learn to do these things and gain your confidence in your own abilities, you will find yourself more at ease and can be able to let go of the past. Stay strong!

You sound like me, I'm going through that now. Today was the day that i choose to be happy for once, I was in a 7 year relationship, and i made that big step today, this MORNING, you decide whether you want to be happy, and you'll see there is plenty more men out there when you are ready. THANKS FOR ASKING THAT QUESTION. IT MADE ME FEEL BETTER TO SHARE THAT WITH YOU.

It must be even harder, if there was no big bang. ... >>> you guys got along..... you don't know why.
If there was a super nova... then one day you will stop feeling that way, because you will meet somebody else and become one with that person and create a new planet. I think I read a bit too much in that "Galaxy" book.

The world is scary, but not many people get a chance to start over. See it how you want. Good Luck.
