all right...i'm embarassed about this a little bit 'cause experienced people keep telling me to get real & not live in a fantasy.

i'd love to write a bestseller in a couple of years' time. i've given this a lot of thought and maybe, just maybe I could do it. the problem is, when I hear people saying these things I get completely discouraged about anything in life. this bestseller would save me in a way - it would leave me with a sense of great accomplishment and change me for the better. i've exp. a lot of hurt and this is the only thing I feel passionate about.

I'm not an author but I have experienced my share of nay sayers in the past. And whatever reason they have for their negativity it's not right to come at you with it. Do your best to block out the people who do not support you. Try to use them as fuel. See them as just another reason to reach your dream. It will feel that much better when you accomplish it in the end. It may be cheesy to some people but here goes; as long as you believe in yourself and have the drive to do what is necessary to succeed then you can do pretty much anything. People who can't do what you say you're going to do will always be discouraging. But if you stay positive and keep at it, eventually people will come around. Even if you have to smack them with your 1st edition to show them. My grand father used to tell me that when I doubted myself, I hope it helps you.

First, Never let anybody else spoil your dreams! Dreams are what gives us the power to get out of bead in the morning instead of giving up on life.

True, some dreams are more grandiose than others. That does not make them un attainable. Somebody has to write those best selling books.... Who says that one of those "somebodies" can't be you.

You can never give up on your dream! I can say I know exactly what you are going through. I always had a dream that I wanted to be a famous radio personality. Everybody around me always poo-poo'ed that idea. I refused to give up the dream. Straight out of college, I was hired to do a morning radio program in the 20th largest radio market in the United States. I was happy to actually be living my dream. I worked there for 7 years. Still, my family did not aknolege that I was doing something sugnificant. Not very many people get to have their own radio morning show.... They did not see it that way. All I ever heard was when are you going to quit playing around and get a respectible job. I unse to love throwing the fact in their face that I only had to work a 4 hour work day, and I was making a-lot more that they all did at their first jobs.

I usually just blew off their dissaproval, but deep down it really hurt me. Here I was doing what I loved, and they could not even be happy for me. It was then I decided to start living my life for ME, and not for the approval of others. The only person you have to please in life is yourself.

So, Please, write that book! Even if it does not make it to the best sellers list, you will still have the pride to say you did it! Whenever your book goes to print, shoot me an email... I would be an honer to be able to see you had inspite of others, made your dream come true.

You can do it! Take care, God Bless.

Why is it important what other people think of your dreams? What kind of experience do other people have when it comes to your life and ambitions? Are the words "Wipe Your Feet!" tattooed across your forehead? Look, my life's dream has been to be a writer..an author of a best-selling novel, in fact. I spent too many years doing what other people called chasing a fool's dream. Then call me a fool. I wrote the novel, and when it is finished with the editing, it will be a best seller. BUT even if it is not, even if it sells ONE copy to a stranger in Bilgewater, Montana, I wrote it! But I also have, as I write this, TWO children's books in the hands of my agent! One of the books is "on the block" right now; it is for sale, and is being aggressively shopped around by the agency. The other just landed on her desk, but she likes it and wants more. Ah! How sweet did those words sound to me? My agent telling me that she likes my work and she wants more of it. And the first hasn't even sold yet!

So, my friend, just write your book, best-seller or not. Don't do it for money or spite, but for yourself. You'll feel better just doing that thing that pleases you.
I wish you the best of luck...see you in print, okay?

Go for it. Don't care what everyone else thinks, if you can't stop thinking about them then here's what you do. Don't tell anyone you are writing this novel, then they will not say anything about it. And whether it becomes a best seller or not you will have a sense of accomplishment. but the plus is that if it does become a best seller everyone will be shocked and proud and that will be ten times better.

If you can change your goal, go for it. Writing a best seller is not a reasonable goal until you have a lot of practice writing. I believe this is what your friends are trying to tell you.
A reasonable goal is to become a writer, then a good writer, period. Goals are things to strive for. They are not to predict the outcome.
You feel inadequate, incomplete. Writing a great novel will NOT make you feel complete. But becoming a writer, with no strings attached, can help.
I am a writer, but not published. I enjoy writing. Success for me is to do a good job. If something I write gets published, that is OK. But I write because I enjoy it.
If you write because you enjoy it, good. If you don't, then it is a pipe dream and not a real goal. I am not trying to put you down. Just share a reality with you. Good Luck.

Anything is possible! My goal in life is to write a bestselling novel and I'm 16. A lot can be accomplished in that time.

Don't worry about what others say... if you try hard enough, anything is possible. Never give up!

Go with what you want to do. The "experienced people" will probably all be scratching there heads in a couple years. Don't let others talk you out of your passions. I hope to see you on the best seller's list.

Every aspring author's dream is to write a bestseller. What you're saying is the exact same as you'd like to win the lottery. You can't win if you don't play. Go for it.

keep your eyes on the sky and your feet on the ground. my advice is to try to reach for your dreams but to keep and maintain a day job. the abilitiy to reach your dreams depends on your intelligence, ability, determination and commitment. you should weigh that against reality and see if there is a chance of a possitive outcome. if so , go for your dreams. if not, move on and formulate other goals for your self.
