I really like this girl, and she kindof likes me, but just as a friend. She doesn't know why she doesn't like me, just that I don't have the "special thing" that makes her jump when she sees someone. What do you think that special thing is?

I think that special thing is..........OVER RATED!!
Many relationships start off that way but that is no guarantee that they will last.
The kind of things that lasts and fulfills you is where your partner loves you deeply and you trust each other and know each other very well.
You have a mutual understanding and empathy for one another.
So take her out, say just friends and see how you go!
