Religious texts prove that schizophrenia was rife in the ancient world...

And this is how moralistic story books for children & lost sheep, such as the the Bible, Quran & Torah, were invented...

Is it not time to put away such childish things???

The Bible was compiled or assembled, it was not written as a continuous narrative, it is a composite. There are many errors, insertions, deletions, alterations and historical mistakes, a little historical research will show this. When the Bible was assembled decisions were made as to what to ignore, and what represented the company plan of `the word`, or corporate identity The books not chosen form a body of work known as the Apocrypha, many of these books are startling in content, Christians rarely if ever study these works, and base everything on the collection of works, that long ago were sifted and sorted to decide what they would believe today. You may wonder why there are provable historical errors in a book "written" by God. Christianity is an invention supported by "facts" that few bother to check!

Well... that's a big question. I believe the Bible was actually invented by God. He wrote it through people - it is the inspired and inerrant Word of God. But people, not a person, wrote it. For instance, Genesis was written by Moses, but other books had different authors... Glance in your Bible and see if, at the beginning of each book, it has a brief outline of the content & author named, etc. Mine does - it's pretty interesting.
As for other religious books... I don't know, I am not an expert on them so I can't judge.
Good luck!

God wrote the Bible through the agency of men that He chose. The Bible is the Word of God without error. I would be glad to send you an easy-to-understand copy absolutely free. Here's a little more information about God's Word.
For those who would say the Bible is not the Word of God, or that the Bible contains numerous errors I would say this: Paul could say in 2nd Timothy 3:16, "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God." That's the Greek word, "theopneustos" meaning "God-Breathed." Every single word was given from God to 40 different men, and 2nd Peter 1:21 adds: "for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God." Now that was the Old Testament. The New Testament wasn't in existence when Paul used these verses. He was telling the churches in his letters what had happened in the past, but in John 16:12-13, Jesus talked about the coming of the New Testament. He says, "I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come."
That's the New Testamant. And we can say with John 17:17, "Your Word is Truth." Today, we have 66 books written by 40 different individuals on 3 continents covering a period of 1,500 years and there's not one mistake, regardless of what some of the critics say. They haven't studied God's Word enough to know the truth. Among the writers we had kings, poets, philosophers, prophets, scholars and fisherman. And I want you to know we have all of the Word of God today. Someone says, "Yes, but we don't have the original manuscripts" Who said so?
We have copies totalling 24,800. Now, how do we know that they're right? Well, if you take 20 items and you compare them and 19 state one thing and one doesn't, then the one is in error. We've got 24,800 manuscripts that exist today to compare one against another and we have another 80,000 quotations from the church fathers, enough to put the entire Bible together with the exception of 11 verses. Take the 80,000 quotations from the church fathers and the 24,800 manuscripts for a total of 104,800 and you have all of God's Word dozens and hundreds of times. This is so because God's Word is literally flawless. After computers have compared millions, or even billions, of letters in analyzing the 104,800 manuscripts the texts are basically flawless. So, don't listen to the critics.
You need to be reading the Word of God. It is God's love-letter to you.

Well, you read enough stupid answers yet, Stardust? The Bible is a bunch of scrolls found in a cave, written by people unknown for purposes unknown that probably included politics and control, setting down a bunch of ancient and now irrelevant codes, that has gone through several translation efforts, many politically influenced themselves, which blindly accepting people today believe is the inerrant word of God to the extent they're willing to slaughter unbelievers. The Bible is irrelevant, you yourself are God, and the challenge is to be moral, not religious. Good luck.

There are those books which are revealed to prophets and there are books that were invented. Revealed books are Torah (Judaism), Bible (Christianity) and Quran (Islam) (there might be other books that were also revealed that we do not know), the rest of the religious books are invented by their founders.

Revealed books were sent by God through angel Gabriel to different prophets. Some were dictated i.e Quran, and they are the actual Words of God, and some were inspired i.e. Bible, Bible was written based on what prophet Jesus preached. So it's a book from God but the words of the Bible are not God's but man's (Jesus' words). Bible was also re-written and altered many times by the church, thus loosing its credibility among many believers.

The bible and other books were written by lots of people over a long period of time. The different sections of the bible are named for the people that wrote them. Like John, or Luke.
Eventually, the christian church decided it had enough chapters in the bible, and stopped taking additions to it.

Each religion has its own prophet(s), e.g. Mahavira of Jainism, Guatama of Buddhism, Mohammed of Islam, Joseph Smith of Mormonism, etc.Moses wrote the early books of the Bible, but more were added for 1400 years or so. As you say, religions are inventions.

Invented is not the word! The Bible is a Divine Revelation. In the Bible we find out what God wants mankind to know about Himself and His plan.
The Bible is the only written revelation of God to man. Our Bible is composed of 66 books, by about 40 different writers of various backgrounds, living during a period of about 1,600 years -- yet they present one message. Such a miracle can only be explained by there being one divine Author, who was in control of all these human writers.
Some scientists would not agree that the Bible is correct -- but none can prove the Bible wrong. And there are many, many scientists who acknowledge that the Bible is scientifically correct.

Man has taken many centuries to discover many things the Bible stated thousands of years ago. Where did the writers of the Bible get their information -- if not from God?

The Bible writers came from many walks of life, including kings, peasants, philosophers, fishermen, herdsmen, poets, statesmen, scholars, soldiers, priests, prophets, a tax collector, a tentmaking rabbi, and a Gentile doctor.

The Bible was written in three different languages: Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek.
The writings contained in the Bible belong to a great variety of literary types including history, law, poetry, educational discourses, parables, biography, personal correspondence, and prophecy.

There's a really good book called "Who Wrote the Bible" by Richard Elliott Friedman. It's an excellent read and you may enjoy it. I can't remember the whole argument now, but he concentrates on the first five books and argues that it was written, principally for political purposes to do with the tribal culture at the time, by at least five men and, probably, one woman. Of couse, the whole things has been re-translated, mistranslated and generally messed about with ever since.

ABOUT THE SOURCES

WHAT are the most historically authentic and reliable sources about Jesus?
WHEN were the primary biographies of Jesus (Gospels) selected, and others rejected?
HOW were the primary biographies of Jesus (Gospels) selected?
What criteria/tests were used to determine the historical authenticity/accuracy of the primary biographical sources?
Were the biographies of Jesus reliably preserved?
Are there credible sources about Jesus outside his biographies

The most trustworthy records of the events and statements of Jesus were of either direct or indirect eyewitness testimony. Four biographies about Jesus have withstood the test of scrutiny and time. Throughout history, only these four biographies of Jesus (Gospels) have been included in the Holy Scriptures (The Bible) officially recognized by Catholics and Protestants.

These biographies include only the Gospel (“good news”) according to Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Matthew, an eyewitness disciple of Jesus wrote his biography of Jesus in Hebrew around 80 AD, intended for Jewish audiences. Jesus’ disciple, John, sought to be more unique in his content rather than merely repeating the other three biographies. Mark, an interpreter for Jesus’ disciple Peter, scribed his biography of Jesus likely between 50 and 70 AD. Paul’s close companion, Luke, an educated physician researched various events and documented his report in the remaining Gospel.

These biographies were all written within the same century as Jesus lived. The remaining Canon (list of what to include) of the New Testament was completed when the last authoritative book was given to any church by the apostles, and that was when John wrote the Apocalypse (Revelations), about A.D. 98.

Good luck with your enquiry and a word of caution, don't pay a lot of heed to any reference from within the books themselves as to who wrote them.
