A friend of mine said that she cleaned it , like let it soak in a little water and then air dry or just took a damp rag to it and it stopped for the most part.

For a Halloween costume, there shouldn't be too much shedding, but...
wherever the material has been cut with scissors, you may find more shedding. Tearing the material reduces the fibers from falling off. Or sew a basting stitch along the edge to prevent unraveling and shedding above the stitch. The helps stabilize the areas under the arm and along the bottom hem.

The faux sheds its summer coat this time of year so it can grow its winter coat. Looks like you are out of luck. Just brush it and pretend it's a real animal.

Personally... I do not know.. but people who have faux fur tell me that it is important to have them professionally cleaned once a year... perhaps that helps the shedding??
