Many are called but few are chosen.

And of those called how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble are called,

but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty,

and base things of the world and things which are despised has God chosen, yes, and things which are not to bring to nought things that are,

that no flesh should glory in his prescence.

It is rather for us to call, for, whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. And we are called by the gospel to obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ and to the kingdom of God.

A vocation? - As God has distributed to every man, as the Lord has called every one , so let him walk..........let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called.

We are to turn from dead works to serve the living God and since we receive a kingdom that cannot be moved we should have grace whereby we may serve God with reverence and godly fear. We should, of course, serve in newness of spirit and not in oldness of letter.

Our purpose? To glorify God and enjoy Him forever.

We are to show forth the praises of him who has called us out of darkness into his marvellous light. We are his workmanship, that in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

For it is by grace we are saved and that not of ourselves, it is the gift of God. It is to the praise of the glory of his grace.

Can ther be any better calling, service or purpose?

But then, it needn't have "a spiritual dimension" either, right?

Mine doesn't.

Humanity as a whole has learned much of great value. I would like to see this knowledge spread much more widely than it currently is.

I don't know if you'd call it a calling or anything else, but my passion is to reform education in such a way that students in educational systems learn to deeply understand and make use of the knowledge the species has gained.

Genuine understanding and use of this knowledge would greatly help us make this sorry old world a place fit for humans and other living things.

But as long as that knowledge is treated as a long list of trivia questions, it's all but worthless to most.

Why is it that all `callings` or vocations have to have a spiritual dimension . Is that spiritual dimension invalid if you are Muslim, or Atheist?

I believe God has called all believers to be a witness and good example for him. As to a specific purpose, God has given me and you gifts to help our churches and communities. Bible College is a great place to develop those gifts. In my case, God has given me the gift of prophecy. (teaching the word)

I don't really have a "calling". Our God given commission is go tell the good news from the Bible to everyone (this is what Jesus taught his followers) and to make disciples.
