Of course a broken ankle can be a weight bearing fracture! Regardless, you don't need to hold your ankles down to do sit ups. Just lay on the floor with your knees bent, tilt your pelvis upward slightly and crunch away. As for the push ups. Try putting something you can lean on under the knee of the leg your broken ankle is on.

Tucking your toes under something to do situps is the old method. It actually can cause injury. In modern day gyms, they do not have this anymore. It used to be there.

That said, you do your situps without putting any undue stress on your ankle anyway. So, go right ahead, do it the right way. Then ankle does not come into play.

Word of caution about ankle injury and knee injury.Take good care of this. It can lead to problems if you put undue stress on this all important part of your leg and associated body parts.

I taught aerobics with a broken ankle. my ankle is stronger than the other one. But I don't recomend you to do that. If you can get down to the floor then your crunches are good to go. If not sit on the edge of a chair knees bent. lift bent knees up and down to touch the floor barely. do three sets of 8..10..15 as you get better. Pushups can be done facing a wall(mind you have to stand on your good leg) push away from the wall. do as many as you can and progress. that might be best to do when you can stand on both feet tho.

I would think not - that it's weighbearing. I do my situps on the bed with my knees bent. There is no pressure on the legs.

Prop it on a foot rest or ottoman.
