If this has been going on for awhile it's probably definitely time to see the Doctor. Just from the small amount of information you've given here, I would be inclined to think that it has something to do with your lumbar(lower) spine. However a true diagnosis can't really be made without actually seeing you. The pain doesn't appear to be far enough down to be sciatica since the sciatic nerve acutally exits from under your piriformis muscle(muscle in your butt) and travels down the back of you leg all the way down to your foot. Your pain appears higher up in relation to your body. The Doctor is definitely what you should do and if I'm right in saying that it's problems in your Lumbar spine then you'll probably be referred to a Physical Therapis.
Some things you might want to write down before you go to the Doctor and some things I know you'll be asked if you go to a Physical Therapist are: Is there something specific you can think of that caused the pain? When did the pain start? What have you been doing to alleviate the pain? What makes the pain better? What makes the pain worse? Any problems with pain in the same area in the past? These few questions can tell your health professional a lot and makes their job much easier. Hope this helps and good luck!

Sound like sciatica which is at the base of your spine and could mean you have a pinched nerve. Follow up with a good chiropractor you seem to be experiensing subluxcation of your L-spine with proper adjustments and therapy you can go back to feeling brand new !

It could be a bladder/kidney/urinary tract infection. Sometimes when you get pains in your back and sides you really need to drink more water. Try water and cranberry juice as your fluids and go to the Doctor. You will be surprised at the benefits of plain old H2O. Good Luck--- and Drink Up-----Water that is. LOL

Go see a chiropractor! You might have disc problems or a subluxation ( which means your vertebra are out of alignment).
