how do i merge documents but still maintain their different page number formats in MS word?

for example the first few pages are in roman numerals(i,ii,iii) while the rest of the pages are in normal number form that is 1,2,3. i have tried to merge them but the page format gets changed each time,any tips and simpler way of doing this?

You have to do a page break.

Go to insert, page break. Do this at the end of where you want your roman numerals to be. Then, after the page break you can do the regular numbers.

Literally took me hours to figure this out for my masters thesis project!
