I've got a kid and I just turned 30 so hopefully I'm qualified to answer this.

I think kids have too little responsibility today. In my day, way back in the 80s, it seems like we had a whole lot more responsibility in terms of chores and what not. Of course we had a whole lot more innocence too.

Kids today are growing up way too fast thanks to the television/baby sitter parents tend to stick them in front of.

That has given parents more responsibility nowadays then they had when we were younger though. The world seems to be full of so many more dangers then there were back when I was a kid.

I think kids have too little responsibility. I am 17 and I've never really had to do chores and now that i will be on my own in a few months I'm scared that i won't know how to keep my house looking nice and cooking for my husband and taking care of my daughter (8 months now) because I've been raised to kind of be lazy and it's not my fault but now the blames on me and i feel like it's not my fault. so i think kids should have little chores to show responsibility and when they get old enough get a job to help learn the responsibility of being on time and doing good at jobs. it's really important.

Kids are individuals in today's society just as they've always been. Some have too much responsibility and some have too little. It depends on the personal values and beliefs of each family.

In general I think kids have too little responsibility. The *american* family has become too consumed with quick fixes to everything, and are not taking the time to teach children how to become responsible adults. I see way too many young people that are attempting to get out on their own and have no sence of self disapline and no clue on how to do the most basic household duties.

I feel too little. My b/f's son has no chores when he stays with his mom and when he comes to us it's like pulling teeth to get him to do anything. Kids today lack respect and responsibility. If they don't go to school, we the parents get into trouble. When I was in school (graduated in 1992) I would never imagine not going to school when I was told nor would I ever call the police if my parents smacked my butt or my mouth for talking back. Kids don't take responsibility for their actions, we, the parents, have to take the blame.

I try to teach my 11 yr-old responsibility - chores, money management (she has to save money for anything she wants, I will provide NEEDS), and accountability for grades (bad grades mean TV time is study time.)

She does really well in most respects and loves to help out and to cook, however, I notice that her friends and cousins don't know how to do anything or at least refuse to help when asked. So generally speaking - Too little.

Some have too much, but most have too little. They are given anything they want from their parents and come to expect everyone to do the same for them in life.

too much of the wrong kind of responsibility, and too little of the sort they need to develop at the right rate and into functional adults.

In general, too little.

I'm ten years older than my younger sister, who lives at home with my parents. At her age, I had chores every day -- dishes, vacuuming, cleaning my room, etc. Everytime I see her, she's busy on her cell phone (who gives 12-year-olds cell phones??) or on the internet. She told me she doesn't know how to do laundry. (I learned at nine years old!)

It might have something to do with my mom and dad changing their parenting style over the years because they're more relaxed, but I don't know. Kids these days seem lazy.
