A good portion size for meat is the size of the palm of your hand. For fruits, one of whichever, unless it is berries or grapes, then the rule of thumb is less than a cup. Same goes for peas, etc. You can eat as much salad and celery as you like. Nuts are protein and overdoing them will cause weigh gain due to the makeup, however a handfull of nuts daily isn't going to do you any harm and may actually help. Don't overdo the diet thing, OK? Okay, you should concentrate on servings, this site will tell you how many servings of each food group that you need. http://www.mypyramid.gov/ .Just concentrate on eating a good healthy amount of each food group. And pay attention when you eat. Eat slowly, you body will need time to register the fact it is full, and tell you.
Good things to eat are. Yogurt (low fat) veggies in low fat dressing, fruit, toast (whole wheat) nuts. Eating cereal is fine, just use skim or low fat milk and make sure the cereal is not super sugary and fatty.
Nuts are high in fat, but it is the "good" fat which is actually beneficial to your health and can help you lose weight. Just try not to eat more than 1 or at the MOST 2 small handfulls.
6 fruits is a bit much becuase fruit has sugar, but it is a better choice than a lot of other foods

Take whatever you plan to eat and fit it into the palm of your hand.
A level handful is a portion.
When you snack on nuts you may want to think almonds because they are a great source of calcium, iron and antioxidants.
I enjoy veggie chips, carrot sticks as a snack.
It just depends on your taste, but try to stay away from breads and barbs.

do you count your calories?it's a good thing. you should also eat potions as big as your fist. and nut, they are high in saturated fats and high in calories. but u said u liked them, so moderation is the key. fruits are good sources of vitamins, but they can also be bad because many are sweet. so has i said before, count your calories.
