You can go to the library if there's a geneology section of the library. If his familiy on his side lived on a reservation, I know my old cultural history teacher was indian, and he said if you wanted to trace your blood that you would have to find your grandfather. They are on some type of list or registry of some sort if they were full blood or close to it. You might have to to find the state that his tribe was in and get numbers to the Indian reservation agencies or advocates that deal with that sort of thing. But if he finds his grandfather's name, that will be the starting point to trace the blood line with.

Greetings!
Most tribes are pretty good at having developed ancestral records. Find where the tribe is located reservation wise and contact them directly with as much info as you can give them.
Most tribes consider you to be what your mother was. So there would be no three quarters or part Native American.
