Yeah it's wrong, but exactly how evil is it? I smoke rollups, so at least mine are biodegradable, but all these holier than thou non smokers who've answered are a bit smug for my liking. No doubt half of them have got 4x4s or people carriers (they can afford them cos they don't smoke!) or fly or don't shop carefully enough and with a conscience, and are doing more harm to the environment or peoples rights than you chucking a ciggie out the window. You got caught, maybe you should pay, but I'd certainly question a system that fines you £60 for that, yet probably doesn't have a decent pubic transport system going on for example. Just a stealth tax, I agree, and entirely hypocritical. And the rest of you, try THINKING alittle before you answer, and yes, we know smoking's bad for us, but we still do it! So what? We can, and we will, until we don't want to any more, then we'll stop. OK? Is that all right with you?

for littering its just "outside" and "in a public place" so the status of the road does not matter and its public if Tescos invite the public in.
I cant see the point fighting it but it is very dissapointing that the council go for the easy pickings and cant do more productive work for the benefit of the community, just pick on the motorists clamp their cars and dish out tickets. You'd get less for shoplifting.

I would slip the jobsworth £40 saving you £20 to go get a 'brass' round the corner & go have a blow on you. Ask them what have the council done for natural power fuels when it's all polictics & money to why we still use coal, gas & petrol. So what damage does a cig butt do to the environment? Let them come to you, try not to worry, hey life is worth fighting & living if got time.

If you break the law, I guess you are busted. Not much we can do. We do not always agree with the laws or like the laws but it is not our job to like them...it is our duty to abide by them. I had no idea that was against the law. It would help the environment but people have always thrown cig butts on the ground. Sounds very controversial. I guess you must be the bigger person and comply. Learn from this and move on. Hope good things come your way.

Demand photographic evidence as otherwise it's the jobsworth's word against yours. This is another stealth tax and with all the problems facing the UK at the moment shouldn't we put our civil servants to better use.
Fight the power.

definite, it annoys me whilst human beings do this. they might desire to freshen up their very own mess rather of flicking it out on the streets for others to p.c.. up. that is undesirable adequate that they pollute the air for each individual around them with their undesirable habit devoid of them throwing their cigarette butts on the floor too. How perplexing can or no longer that is to place the cigarette out interior the ashtrey interior the motor vehicle and as quickly as a week empty the ashtrey?

Remember, if you were a gypsy 'trashing' a local beauty spot the council couldn't give a damn about you. In fact after you were evicted after dumping tons of rubbish they would get the local council tax payer to pay to clean up after you.

You could approach TESCOS and ask them who owns the road!
But as you say, you were wrong to throw the butt out of the window - that said, many of us do it.
I bet you will NEVER litter again!

Pay the fine, learn your lesson. Although as a fellow smoker I'd be totally mad if I got fined for that!
Its one of those things they are right, but like you said can't they just make you pick it up and make you feel guilty or something!
